scrublink 0 #51 September 19, 2006 No x 4. My plan is to let someone else figure out this shit. If they don't do something with my remains then I'll just end up rotting in place. Not my worry at that point. I don't think anyone would actually notice for quite a while. Ed
Andy9o8 2 #52 September 19, 2006 Quote I don't have a will, but Morgan is listed on my Life Insurance and she knows my wishes. I need to get a will put together. Yes, you really do, especially given your occupation and your and your wife's mutual hobby. Also, spouses should have "backups" to each other in case they perish simultaneously (such as a car/plane crash, house fire, etc.), or in case one has died and the other is so badly hurt he/she can't tend to the necessary affairs. Also strongly recommend you both have advance health care directives/powers of attorney ("living wills"). Generally (i.e., for anybody): why is having a will always a good idea, even if you're at a stage of life where you don't think you have much assets to pass on (even if you don't have children, or they're all grown)? Well, if you're critically and/or permanently injured, but not killed, in an accident (say, a car crash, etc.) due to someone else's negligence, you might come into a great deal of money through a legal claim – and that essentially vests at the moment you're injured. Your injury might, maybe permanently, prevent you from being competent to make out a will. If you later die because your life span has been shortened, you might very well leave an estate with quite a large amount of assets to distribute to your heirs. With a Will, you pre-determine exactly how and to whom your estate does (and does not) get distributed.
