Beverly 1 #1 September 17, 2006 She was hijacked for her mini cooper, cell phone, diamond ring and handbag. Her husband saw it happening and chased after the hijackers with his brother and shot them both dead. Very traumatic weekend. Damn, I hate the crime in this place!! I want out!! Beverly 1 #5 September 17, 2006 They were not physically hurt. She had a gun to her face and one to her stomach while she was being robbed. More trauma at the moment. Her hubby was shot at, not hit, he has a bullet proof car. Her mini was trashed, bled in and all windows shot out. It has been 3 days of councelling and still she can't really talk about it. I think the hard part is still to come to see if there are any repercussions for her husband and his brother for killing the hijackers. It is horrible to see her in such bad shape. She is the most beautiful and caring person I know. I think true friendship is under-rated Twitter: @Dreamskygirlsa

Tonto 1 #7 September 17, 2006 Hi Bev, Well, now you'll have something to chat about at the braai. If you havn't been divorced or hijacked.. you really have nothing to say to whuffos.. By the way, chasing and killing may have some legal implications. The laws have changed a great deal in the last 6 years. See you on the weekend! It's the year of the Pig. Pretty sure he won't have any charges brought against him if he is licensed to own a gun sounds like he and his brother shot and killed the two men in self-defense.I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver My God has a bigger dick than your god -George Carlin

scrublink 0 #15 September 17, 2006 While I hope they aren't charged.... In most places (granted S.A. is not most places) you can't chase someone down, kill them then claim self-defense. Usually you have to have no other way to preserve your safety. I hope they get away with it though. Ed
Viking 0 #16 September 17, 2006 Well I'm sure they weren't chasing them down with the one thought of shooting them dead. Now after the carjackers shot at them......thats a different story. Now i don't have a clue about SA law so i'm gonna stop right there.I swear you must have footprints on the back of your helmet - chicagoskydiver My God has a bigger dick than your god -George Carlin
scrublink 0 #17 September 17, 2006 Neither do I. It was just something I thought of. Granted, here in the States it would be an almost automatic guilty verdict for the victims (at least up here in the northeast). I have done a bit of research on what is allowed as pertaining to deadly force and found out that there are a lot of horror stories out there concerning the victims being prosecuted after. I hope that doesn't happen in this case. Sounds like they were doing a public service to me. Ed
masterrig 1 #18 September 17, 2006 I'm really sorry to hear of this. I do hope, she'll be all-right. It's going to take time. I hope, the two men who chased down the bad guys, get nothing more than a medal for their actions. Chuck

Was the friend shot before the attackers were murdered? Sorry your friends are going through this. I dont think it was right to kill the attackers after the attackers fled the scene but thats my personal opinion by what Ive read on this thread and I think at the very least they did what they felt was right and its horrible your friend had to be attacked and might have to watch her husband get in trouble for defending her.Sudsy Fist: i don't think i'd ever say this Sudsy Fist: but you're looking damn sudsydoable in this
 Squeak 17 #21 September 18, 2006 QuoteSo they sell bullet proof cars down at the dealerships? She arrived at work in an office park. They stopped her outside her office door. They left with all her stuff and car and her husband persued in his car. At the security entrance, they caught up with them. Apparently they fired a warning shot to get them to stop (Aiming low at tyres) and the hijackers started shooting back at them - head height. They shot through the windows and trashed the mini. So basically there was lots of shooting in both directions, I think that the victims were a better shot. Hijackings in SA are very common. It often leads to someone dying. Most people know someone that has been attacked, hijacked, smash and grab (Handbag/cellphone) out of their car while stopped at a traffic light. (Me included - but I elbowed him in his face and drove through a red light). We slow down at traffic lights at night, because it is too dangerous to stop. I am sick of the crime and the insecurities we have to deal with every day of our lives. I am glad the guys are dead and they cannot harm anyone else. I am sure the victims will get off on a self defense charge - our minister of defense actually praised a guy the other day for stopping a crime and shooting someone. The people rejoyce when someone fights back. Unfortunately, it often does not have the desired outcome and the people often get killed in the process. I never want people to die uncecessarily, but what gives them the right to do what they did and think they can get away with it?
