closing pin scratched

I have a javelin odyssey thats a couple hundred jumps old.I have just noticed that the main closing pin has scored/scratched the grommet on the flap and the outside edge of the pin is roughed up from this contact.The pin doesn't actually have any burs on it just a bit rough.My closing loop is ok,no excessive wear and i dont think the outer curve of the pin actually comes into contact with the loop on opening anyway.Is this roughing up of the pin normal.

I don't think it's normal.

I've had several rigs, some with 1000's of dives on them and have never noticed pin/grommet wear. Are the grommets stainless or brass?

I think some high res pics should clear this up. Just had a look at my oldest rig, which has about 700 jumps on it, and you can see there has been contact - but I wouldn't refer to the pin as scratched.

Stainless or nickle plated?

I see dents and bumps but not usually "rough" like sandpaper.

To smooth the pin, just rub it with emery cloth (fine sandpaper).

To smooth the grommet, ask your rigger to re-set it. If the grommet is really rough, it will have to be replaced.
