browncow 0 #1 May 2, 2007 I have a javelin odyssey thats a couple hundred jumps old.I have just noticed that the main closing pin has scored/scratched the grommet on the flap and the outside edge of the pin is roughed up from this contact. The pin doesn't actually have any burs on it just a bit rough. My closing loop is ok,no excessive wear and i dont think the outer curve of the pin actually comes into contact with the loop on opening anyway. Is this roughing up of the pin normal. Tonto 1 #2 May 2, 2007 I don't think it's normal. I've had several rigs, some with 1000's of dives on them and have never noticed pin/grommet wear. Are the grommets stainless or brass? tIt's the year of the Pig.
Tonto 1 #4 May 2, 2007 I think some high res pics should clear this up. Just had a look at my oldest rig, which has about 700 jumps on it, and you can see there has been contact - but I wouldn't refer to the pin as scratched. tIt's the year of the Pig. councilman24 37 #5 May 2, 2007 Stainless or nickle plated? I see dents and bumps but not usually "rough" like sandpaper.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
riggerrob 643 #6 May 2, 2007 To smooth the pin, just rub it with emery cloth (fine sandpaper). To smooth the grommet, ask your rigger to re-set it. If the grommet is really rough, it will have to be replaced.
