freeflir29 0 #4 September 10, 2006 Kick ass! I remember making Staff Seargent. (E-5) in the Air Force. It was my THIRD time testing for it. The scores the year before had jumped like 30 or more points and I missed promotion by 4. The next year they dropped like 40 some points and I had 45 extra. I was sorta hoping I didn't get promoted. Then I could have done the rest of my enlistment..........and they would have kicked me out. Of course..........with a tidy some put into my bank account. Instead I got $150 a month for the next few years and got out with NADA. Oh well........I can put "Division Flight NCOIC" on my resume. Congrats..............now take good care of your troops! Hell Yeah! Congrats, damn that is a happy day when you are no longer a lower enlisted, (it actually didn't mean much, but the pay was better and sounds better than Specialist 4) The lowest guy we had for a while was a spec 4, me! matt1215 0 #6 September 10, 2006 I found out last month that I made SSgt (again, USAF E-5). First time testing with 23 points to spare. I won't see it till May or June, but I'll have more jump-$$ next summer. Quote I was sorta hoping I didn't get promoted. Why would they have kicked you out for not making Staff?
matt1215 0 #7 September 10, 2006 Congrats bro!!
 freeflir29 0 #8 September 10, 2006 QuoteWhy would they have kicked you out for not making Staff? From your confused reaction I guess they don't have the "High Year Tenure" anymore. It used to be that if you didn't make Staff by 10 years (In an AFSC WITHOUT a retention bonus) or 12 years (If you had a bonus) they booted you out and paid you pretty well. My job had a bonus so I would have had to do 12. From what I know now though.........this would be a RARE problem. What was your score and what percent did they promote? I think the first time I tested the promote score was around 280 something. I scored better than 88% of the people I tested against. STILL didn't get promoted. I think they were only promoting less than 10% back then. 7 IIRC.
 matt1215 0 #9 September 10, 2006 They still have HYT, just figured you would've tested more than 3 times in 12 years. I scored a 302 with a 279 cutoff. They promoted 35% in my AFSC, so I'm assuming that %'s AF-wide. I've heard the stories about how promotions used to be a lot leaner. In my case, it didn't seem to make much difference.
