Now, I've been on an internationally diverted flight before and I understand customs problems and all of that, but 10 HOURS??? That's just rediculous. And on top of that, the airline said there wasn't anyway to get them off, when there was clearly an airstair up at the plane. Duh. Then, to add insult to injury, they get $50 dollar travel voucher towards future airfares of $200 or more! O. M. G. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And... Lindercles 0 #2 September 6, 2006 If they'd opened the cabin the smoke could have escaped into the atmosphere. It's the new environmental face of the airline industry.
NWFlyer 2 #3 September 6, 2006 They don't call it Northworst for nothing. But it does beg the question - does Duluth have facilities to handle customs & immigration? That's the only legit reason I could see for keeping them on the plane, but the fact that they eventually took them off the plane in Duluth sort of makes that excuse a weak one. But if there's smoke in the cabin, the first choice should have been to evacuate the cabin, customs be damned! Airport authorities could have contained the passengers at an area inside the terminal. And, these were passenger OUTBOUND from the US to England, not INBOUND from England to the US. Now, this is all armchair quarterbacking, since I have no idea how bad it was, but it was enough to divert the plane. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And... Last time USAirways screwed me in Philly (and didn't even kiss me afterwards) I mouthed off to the agent (not nice, I know ) and said, "I cannot wait for this company to go bankrupt!" The quickwitted gate lady agent said, "well I hope you get hit by a bus and die when you get home!" I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
gravitational 0 #7 September 6, 2006 Last time I flew NW (Dec 26th 1999) I was in the plane for approximately 8 hours before they let us off. 2 hours delay at the gate, 4 hours on the ground 'waiting' to get de-iced and another 2 back at the gate while they looked for the flight crew (flight attendants included) all who had gotten off the plane when it pulled back to the gate. Spent the next 3 days in MSP attempting to get out.------ Michael

sundevil777 102 #10 September 6, 2006 There is a way to fix that - open one of the emergency exits and deploy the slide. Might get in trouble for it though...People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

Duluth is one of the smallest commercial airports I've seen, beating Green Bay and a host of others. I have a cabin on Lake Vermilion in MN—about an hour north of Duluth. My S.O. and I were late getting to the airport (construction) and they ACTUALLY HELD THE PLANE FOR US. Teeny Weeny airport.
