I just found out that Mike collapsed at home Wednesday afternoon. He is in the CDU (critical decision unit) at the local medical center waiting to be moved to another hospital down south.

I just got off the phone with Mike. He had a bad virus that hit him the really wrong way from the sounds of it. He would like to let everyone know that he is going to be fine and the main problem is he just hasn't had enough margaritas lately.

This message really freaked me out. Glad I am not about to lose another Mike.

Mike has a very strange virus that is affecting part of his brain. I am sorry I don't know exactly what it is, but I do know that it is rare. His house is being examined looking for causes of the virus. (in otherwords...the medical community isn't certain how it was contracted)

He was transferred to a hospital in Miami yesterday.

When I spoke with him he sounded tired, but assured me that he is doing ok.

I plan to call later in the day and will let you know if there are any updates.

Well, Mike has a severe case of Vestibular Neuritis of unknown etiology. So far he has had a MRI, CAT scan, EEG, EKG's, stress and table tilt test with echocardiogram, ultrasound of his carotid arteries and blood work galore every six hours.

The good news is that he not have a stroke or tumor as first thought. He able to stand and walk with help or if he can hold onto something. He said they are very aggressive there and have already started him on physical therapy to retrain his brain to balance. He should be out in about 3-4 days and then continued physical therapy for 3-4 weeks. If all goes well he should get back to normal. The other good thing according to Mike is there is almost never a reoccurrence.
