bigorangemd 0 #26 May 15, 2007 How old is the Neptune. Someone had a similar problem at my DZ, I test jumped it and noticed it did exactly what your are describing just prior to throw out. It had dated software and a quick update corrected the problem. If you have a neptune rep at your DZ ask them. If you send it in the Alti-2 people have great customer service and should get the problem fixed for you.

It's probably about a year and a half old, but it does have the latest software version on it, 2.6.2. It's on its way to Alti-2 so they can check it out and see if anything's wrong. They did offer to look at it at no charge and turn it back around the same day they receive it.

I have 2.6.2 D, where D is the hardware revision.

I didn't realize there was more to the version, I'll check when I get home and let you know.
kturnau 0 #30 May 15, 2007 I had a slightly different situation with my Neptune last year. I was doing a night jump using the unit as a hand mount altimeter and it completely shut off in freefall. Kind of a scary jump!! I think what may have caused my problem was that I didn't use the metal back plate as I normally do when I use it as a hand mount and maybe the extra flapping against my hand shut the unit off. Don't really know for sure but it hasn't happened since. Maybe you bumped it on the plane by accident and it somehow reset. Definitely have Alti-2 take a look at it if you are concerned. They will fix you up quick.FALLATIO #13 PELT HEAD #

brianfry713 0 #32 May 23, 2007 Did you have the backlight and alarms activated at the same time? If so the backlight turns off while the alarms are sounding. http://www.alti-2.com/neptune%20owners/night_jump.htm
377 22 #33 May 26, 2007 I made lots of jumps in the 60s with no altimeter, couldnt afford one. I got really good at eyeballing altitude. Now I jump with one analog and one digital. I still eyeball it and compare my estimate with what the altimeters say, but having two altimeters is a good idea. Twice I have had an altimeter fail in freefall, that's why I like to have a couple. I often jump with 3, one chest mount on a wedge so others can see it in an RW formation and two on my wrist... and two audibles, so 5 altimeters altogether. No, I don't wear two helmets and I only have one reserve. I just like altimeters. The more the merrier.2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968. maurice1369 0 #34 May 30, 2007 I had a similar thing happen to me with my Neptune but luckily I noticed it before I ever even got on the plane. I had gone on vaction during the winter and the weather was not too cold but after leaving my gear in the trunk of my car for 3 weeks I had gone back to a warmer climate and when I turned on my Neptune the thing would not power on right away but after it eventually powered on it had the same display as your. I was worried that the battery was somehow drained even though I had changed the bater a month ago. So after I changed the battery my Neptune had worked perfectly after I had changed the batteryEXPECT THE WORST, HOPE FOR THE BEST!!!
