Fighting a speeding ticket

Recommended Posts

Quote

Ill admit I was speeding, everytime I drive I speed. But I will not pay outrageous fines that I feel are unfair and unjust for driving in a manner I feel is safe and within my and my vehicles ability. That is what I am fighting. But maybe thats because I learned to drive in Germany.

You feel the fines are outrageous, well too bad. Then don't speed and you won't have to pay those fines.

I admit, the way they drive overseas is a lot different then in America. So, when in America, you got to follow the rule book;)

You may think you are under control when driving fast, but what if what's behind that ball coming out in the street is a little boy or girl? Can you still promise me that you'll stop fast enough every time?

A 60 year old man may believe he is still able to handle his car within it's limits at a higher speed, but he can't because is reflex has slowed down. So, I guess he should get the ticket and not you.

If that little kid is on the interstate then.... Thats where I do 90% of my driving. In the cities, I drive according to the situation. Can you promise me that you will stop in time when you are doing the limit? Its relative, maybe you will, maybe you wont, but just because your speeding doesnt automatically mean you are no longer in control.

Let me throw a little tangent here? Ever been to a dry county? So because you walked 10' into a new county, do you believe it is now automatically wrong to drink? Arbitrary rules. I choose not to live my life under the thumb. Your welcome to do as you wish, that is your right, just dont get in my way when Im passing you all.... But feel free to wave and laugh at me if you pass me sitting on the side of the street in front of Officer Joe Doughnut.

And no he shouldnt get a ticket for being older, he should know his abilitys, adjust his speed, following distance, and driving habits accordingly. When he pulls out in front of a motorcycle/drives through a building/plows through an intersection....

Glad to hear you "try" to follow the limits when off the interstates.

Believe it or not, I tend to drive "really slow" in the areas I know children are.

The faster you are going, the longer it takes you to stop.

Sorry, we're not taking about drinking. We're talking about speeding. Two different things.

Do you really think the male ego is going to tell him he's getting old and slow;)

See I was cool with all your responses until the last one. By the elderly ages... most of these guys and gals for this matter have long been past the stages of ego. I see just as many old men drivers as I do old lady drivers who really shouldnt be behind a wheel.

Were not talking about drinking or speeding for that matter. I am talking about how I feel limits are imposed on me and on others that I see as unjust and not based on logic. My point of that analogy is to help conceptualize that just because someone says its illegal, doesnt make it wrong. It is illegal because they have the powers to write it in law books. Can you think of other examples where this has taken place?

ummm yea , thats how it works , people make laws for a reason, and most times they wont ask Derek if its okay. Then they put it in this law book you speak of... and then guess what? Its illigal... which in turn makes it wrong, because well its not legal :| Funny thing happens next. If its illigal, and you do it anyways, and get caught, there is generally some form of punishment.

If you dont like the discussion, stay out. I have seen plenty of threads where you babble, and now you have to jump into this one because you feel it has some merit outside the discussion of tits?

So when the law said that black people had to sit in the back of the bus, it was ok because it was a law? just because its a law doesnt make it right.

Yes I know this has nothing to do with speeding, but its the concept, the principle you need to see here. Just because someone said so, doesnt make it right.

Sounds like your daughter sucks at driving and is not ready for it with multiple tickets and at least one rear end accident in how long driving?

You know, on a typical city road that is 30mph and up its really obvious if you're doing 16mph over the limit. VERY obvious.

This is an interesting thread with a minor discussion between elderly drivers and young drivers. Typically I see more accidents and more serious safety concerns with the young drivers. Especially the ones that think their vehicle and their driving ability is higher than it really is.

The more really serious accidents I see the more conservative I have become when driving in my personal life.

As a side note, a cure all for teaching kids to drive safely and well is to do what was done to me. Firstly I restored my car when I was 15 so it would be ready when I turned 16. You want to talk about taking care of what you drive? You learn what it takes to put one on the road and keep it on the road. Secondly my parents told me they would pay for my insurance, BUT the first accident or the first ticket I got I would have to carry my own insurance. I would also have to carry full coverage. Talk about a motivating factor, money and time. I had a really good job for a highschool kid by working professionally in computers, so I lived a really good life. Having very little expenses in my life I got to "play" a lot, having to pick up a serious insurance bill each month would mean I would have very little money left over. Nevermind the money I would have to spend to fix my car if I broke it.

My daughter got a $180 speeding ticket for doing 56 in a 40. She said she didn't think she was going that fast, but she has had other driving issues so she could just be telling me that so she'll be in less trouble.

The issue is that the officer wrote that she has a silver truck on the ticket, while she really has a tan truck. Would this be grounds to get it thrown out of court?

What ever happened to stand up and cope it sweet, she broke the law and got caught suck it up:|>:( People are always looking for ways to weasel out of their responsibilities:|

If I was in her shoes and had already done traffic school and they don't offer it again, I'd fight the ticket. There's no reason not to. Nothing to lose.

Other than taking personal responsibility. and how the hell can yo not know what speed you're doing. if she is paying so little attention maybe she should not be driving at all.
