who else likes to go to them?

I'm going to the Pennsylvania one on Saturday with some people.

I'm trying to figure out if I want to get a campsite nearby, so I can see if I can walk to the faire from there. That way I can enjoy the ale & mead & just walk back to the campsite afterwards.B|

mmmmm....Turkey Legs!!B|

Love going to them. B|

I ended up buying a costume one year (serving wench) and wear it when I go now-a-days. It is so much fun walking around in costume as the people are not sure if you're actually part of the staff or not. :D

That stuff is expensive [:/]

Yes, it is. I paid $300 total for everything that I have. The only thing I'm missing is a purse for the costume.

I performed in a magic show at one for four years. I'm the one in the black and red. It's nice no longer being crammed in a basket. :P I'll probably go this year for the first time since I stopped working there several years ago.

Yup.My husband and I both have our own attire too.We go to Scarborough Faire in Waxahachie,TX every Spring and the Texas Renaissance Festival in Plantersville,TX every Winter.

They arent kidding about how expensive the costumes can be either. I paid $400 for a green velvet (gold satin lined) full length, hooded cloak with gold celtic embroidery all along the seam.Beautiful! Even though I only wear it twice a year.:S

OOOOHHHHHH!!!!! Me! Me! The Kansas City Ren Fest is starting in a week.... I've gone every year for the last 8 years... and when I was in college, I was in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism).

I love going in costume. I prefer the more common attire.... The full dresses and costumes are just too confining.

(have I mentioned that I'm a geekette)

I went to one once in Gainesville FL.
I was fascinated by the little 8 year chinese kid that was dressed in medieval garb and was playing 6 simultaneous games of chess, and beating everyone.
I played him twice and he wiped the board with me.

Then I spent the rest of the time walking around and taking pictures of all the "anachronisms" I could find.
For example, I have a picture of a viking looking character holding a fan of one dollar bills, or some medieval woman all dressed up talking on a cell phone. I have a pic of a knight talking on a two-way radio, and another one of a medieval nun carrying a disposable camera.

Then I walked up and took a picture of this kid all dressed up with bleached blonde frosted highlights in his hair. He said, in his worst imitation of an English accent "Oh look, it is one one of those creatures with one of those magical boxes" Shut up toolbox, you frost your hair.

All in all it was fun, especially taking pics.

There is an annual one in Florence/Coolidge (AZ), near here, I guess it lasts for a few months, and it is pretty big, but it would seem strange, the Medieval Desert.
HERE is some info on the az one for all those interested.

Just got back from the Pennsylvania one.

I was smart: I foundthis cheap & sleazy motel within walking distance of the faire, so I could partake of the ale & wine (they have a winery w/ wine tastings RIGHT THERE!) & then just walk back to the hotel.B|

towards the end I was hanging out at one of the "ale houses" & while I enjoyed my beer I got to watch two renaissance hotties making out with each other at the bar.B| wish I had taken pics.:P
