yamtx73 0 #2 August 19, 2006 Yes, I would... it isn't the danger that attracts me... it's the freedom...The only naturals in this sport shit thru feathers...

kelel01 1 #4 August 19, 2006 Yes. Part of the reason I DON'T want to is because it's dangerous.
tbrown 26 #5 August 19, 2006 If it were completely safe you wouldn't feel that little twinge in your tummy that keeps you sharp and honest. I think we hate to admit it, but there's a little bit of fear every time we open the door and it's part of why we love it. Besides, the danger keeps the riff-raff away, or at least it attracts our kind of riff-raff. If it were safe you'd have a bunch of jerks trying to tell everybody what to do because they read it in a book somewhere. We're proud of mastering (more or less) something that is dangerous and doing it in a mostly safe manner. And that is what builds our confidence in ourselves and our bond of trust with our friends. Where else do you trust your closest friends with your life ? Unless you're into S&M, I don't think there's any comparison. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity ! countzero 7 #7 August 19, 2006 for me the danger is part of what makes it so fun. plus without the danger would there be the same adrenaline rush? if it were "perfectly safe" it would be pretty much like tunnel flying except with lots more room to fly around.diamonds are a dawgs best friend

Squeak 17 #10 August 20, 2006 I dont think any where near as many people would have made their 1st jumps if they thought it was completly safe. because there would be non of the adrenalin rush that the fear provides usYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! matt1215 0 #14 August 20, 2006 I agree that tunnel-flying is dangerous. I've found it to be a lot safer in the sense that you eliminate the need to be altitude aware. I used it to learn to be stable for AFF and I'll be back soon to learn to freefly For the original question, I still would jump if with the danger factor removed. Whether I would've made my first jump, not sure.

slug 1 #17 August 20, 2006 I wouldn't have made my first jump if it wasn't for the waiver Forgot we didn't have a waiver. or a tandem, or a aod, or a beeper box. We did it because it was a challenge, the percieved danger was just something to keep us on our toes. I don't think as many people would be jumping if the odds were stacked against us. R.I.P. MagicGuy 0 #18 August 20, 2006 I would definitely still jump. The feeling would still be the same. Jumping from a plane is not a normal thing for humans to do, whether it WAS completely safe to do or not. Hell yeah I'd jump.
riddler 0 #19 August 20, 2006 It's about flying for me. I would love to see it be 100% safe - we'd probably get a lot more people doing it - more dropzones, and who knows? Maybe even good customer service ...Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
