DropDgorgeous 0 #1 June 11, 2007 Hi there
 DougH 270 #2 June 11, 2007 Sure. You HAVE to get a matching rig, brand new matching jumpsuit, expensive sunglasses, and a 300 dollar altimeter. Seriously though I think a good idea would be to get used analog altimeter in good condition, get a protec to cover your noggin, and a cheap set of flexi goggles. Most dz's have a set of older jumpsuit you can borrow. Use that money you would have spent on all new gear on jumps. Belly jumps, coach jumps, hop and pops. Then down the road when you have more experience and you have a better idea of what part of skydiving you would like to concentrate on (or the many parts) you can start looking for new gear. I own one, as do several other friends, and many have had some sort of issue with them.Remster
 DropDgorgeous 0 #7 June 12, 2007 Thanks for the advice
 riggerrob 643 #8 June 12, 2007 Some of us old farts have difficulty reading digital altimeters. Especially those of us suffering from mathematical Attention Deficit Disorder. Since I read altitude off the needle angle (the same way I fly an airplane or drive a car), the only digital alti - that makes any sense to me - is Larsen and Brusgard's latest wrist-mount, with an analog needle displaying digital data. Please feel free to take my comments with a grain of salt .. or write me off as a grumpy old bastard who is too lazy to learn new ways. Rob mentioned the altimaster, I love mine!! For the OP: http://www.paragear.com/templates/parachutes.asp?group=257&level=2&parent=6 The SORZ are good low cost goggles in my opinion. They seal well enough for contacts. What every goggles you get make sure they are clear. Eye contact with your partners and coaches is valuable! Most gear is a personal choice. I like my full face for RW and for winter jumping. It seems to me that most free fliers like open face helmets; but I have done a bunch of sitfly jumps with my fullface with no problem. Some people jump gloves all season long, other people don't. So is your magical money pot going to buy your gear and coaching lessons. Maybe you can get them to skimp on the gear and put it toward instruction and tunnel time. The same with Helmet wait until your sure of everything then get better stuff. About 100 or so jumps you will define your interests. Then get the pretty stuff. I have seen to many jumpers hurt themselves getting over their head and sacrafice a new rig trying beyond their ability. A new scuff on an old rig is hardly seen. A new scuff mark on a new rig just totaled the resale value that has already dropped since jump one like a new car. Dont let Stevie Wonder pick your colors if you plan to sell shortly. When Skydiving is the best thing thats ever happened to you then express yourself. Hope this helped
 DropDgorgeous 0 #11 June 13, 2007 Thanks for the goggles add - never knew there were so many different to choose from. I'ts sad, but as far as I know we don't have a tunnel in SA . I've only ever seen one on a DVD i've been shown. It looks like you can really become confident using a system like that.
