Childhood toys you want your kids to play with?

Recommended Posts

Okay, sue me...I've got baby on the brain...:):$:)

I saw a book the other day that I read when I was a kid and really enjoyed, and since I am having a baby, I thought it would be really awesome to incorporate some of the toys I loved as a kid, and introduce them to my kids.

What cool toys do you want your kids/future kids to have, that either aren't around anymore, or you plan on buying for them?

I'll start!
I read the book about the bear Courdoroy when I was a girl, and I loved that book! I found a set with the book and a plush Courdoroy bear that I want to get. I also enjoyed Gloworms, board games, baby bottles with milk that disappeared, etc. I can't think of anything else right now; I think I always wanted a Teddy Rukspin? bear too, but I never got one.:(

What did you guys enjoy as children?

is the the result of being fucked in the head:D

I still have my Voltron. I know its lame, its geeky and I'm dangerously close to hanging out at sci-fi conventions.

but I used to love transformers and voltron. I have a few of those left. If I have kids I'll probalby play along with them:D

but on a serious tip.

Soccer, football, frisbee, volley ball....anything that keeps themoff of the fucking game stations. I despise gaming.

I had all the usual childhood stuff, plastic bags, broken glass, refridgerators with the doors still on, lawn darts, fireworks, gasoline, matches, plastic army guys, and so forth.
Oh - and rope, too.

Don't know if that's the right stuff for kids nowadays, though.

Books. Lots of Books.

Goodnight Moon
Richard Scarry
Dr Seuss
Pat the Bunny

My brother and I hardly ever watched television when we were little; we didn't want to. My mom always had something we could do, like books, tinkertoys, lincoln logs, legos, etc...stuff you can use your imagination with.

Don't forget Shel Silverstein!

oh... how I love Shel Silvertein...

There are a lot of great ones...

my favorite was always... Nobody :$

Nobody loves me,
Nobody cares,
Nobody picks me peaches and pears.
Nobody offers me candy and Cokes,
Nobody listens and laughs at me jokes.
Nobody helps when I get in a fight,
Nobody does all my homework at night.
Nobody misses me,
Nobody cries,
Nobody thinks I'm a wonderful guy.
So if you ask me who's my best friend, in a whiz,
I'll stand up and tell you that Nobody is.
But yesterday night I got quite a scare,
I woke up and Nobody just wasn't there.
I called out and reached out for Nobody's hand,
In the darkness where Nobody usually stands.
Then I poked through the house, in each cranny and nook,
But I found somebody each place that I looked.
I searched till I'm tired, and now with the dawn,
There's no doubt about it-
Nobody's gone!

You freak'n rock!

I still have some transformers, I definately still have some of my GI Joes and my Legos are most definately still in tact. Actually I've got a Lego version of the BTTF Delorian (BTTF II version, with the wheels down) that I put together about 14 years ago.

I'd like my son to ride a bike, get a baseball bat and glove and play some sandlot baseball - get the kid playing outside.:)
But, if he had the stuff I had, I'd think of:
1) Evel Knievel Stunt Cycle
2) Atari 2600
3) Rubik's Cube
4) Legos
5) And above all - Lincoln Logs!!!

I still have the same board games that I played with my brothers when I was young and now I play them with my kids. The boxes are falling apart, but I have nostalgic moments every time we pull them out. On the top of the Yahtzee box it says, "I got a Yahtzee and beat Eric!" in my schoolgirl handwriting. It makes me smile every time. Oh, the sibling rivalry! Some of the games are:

Yahtzee
Scrabble
Monopoly
Life
Careers
Othello
Clue

Currently, we're stuck on Cranium and we play a lot of the Phase 10 card game. It's funny how those old standards last through the years though.
