reinhart36 0 #1 June 21, 2007 Hi all, I'm considering trying to fabricate booties to attach to a pair of jeans.. Anyone ever tried/seen this? Any thoughts or ideas? I recently tried a jumpsuit with booties and really liked them. I thought it would be nice to have a jumpsuit with detachable booties in case a person wants to perform a freefly jump without changing clothes. I'm thinking that the booties could be attached with snaps, and the joint could be streamlined with velcro-ed fabric. Just brain storming.. In case you're wondering - I'm trying to save $$ for a ring for my girl, so I have cause to avoid buying a jumpsuit if possible... Plus, I always like a crafty project. laters
wmw999 2,517 #2 June 21, 2007 I've seen velcro-on booties. They were on a jumpsuit, but if you accept that a blue jeans jumpsuit probably won't be as good overall as a real jumpsuit, there's no reason you can't have velcro-on or snap-on booties. ZigZagMarquis 9 #4 June 21, 2007 Well, I've never seen that done, exactly. I have seen folks with "bootie chaps" that they'd put on over a jumpsuit sans-booties when they wanted to have booties and not buy a whole new jumpsuit, but that idea never really caught on. It might be a fun project to try, like you say, but when it really comes down to it... If you get into RW, you'll wind up going out and buying a real RW suit and a FF suit if you get into that... or one of each maybe. Also... if... So maybe bootie jeans would be a good economical idea looking ahead to where you'll probably selling what gear you have to buy her new furnature or clothes for the upcoming baby... azureriders 0 #5 June 21, 2007 You should always dress for success, but with that in mind dont think that jeans can never have a place in a good jump suit, they can. The suit in the enclosed pic is one that I made when I had about 50 jumps myself. After a couple mods and around 400 jumps later it is still flying strong. The top I made from scratch of a tanish grey denim, about the same weight as jeans, maybe a little heavier. The bottom I made from a pair of jeans and the arm grips from the legs of an older pair of jeans. I put quiet a bit of work into the jeans, with grips, knee pads, and velcro cuffs, but still less than making them from scratch. I currently have plans to make two more of these suits. One top made of a lighter fabric, but with more room, the other a camera top. One bottom with more of a bloused free fly style leg, and one with booties. I am sorry I dont have any usefull info about adding a pair of removable booties to jeans, but as cheap as jeans are, why not just put them on permenatly, and buy a spair pair. Keep in mind that denim is more pourous than polly cotton and falls very slow, but at your weight you should be able to take advantage of that, even if only for your 'slow' suit. Forgive the photoshop work on the pic, but being that you have your lady in mind, I thought it a fitting picture to include mine.
PhreeZone 20 #6 June 22, 2007 Look at a used suit. You should be able to pick one up for less then $100. If you jump it a year or so you can turn around and sell it for $75 or so as long as you keep standing up your landings Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
