pack volume: sabre2/katana

anyone have first-hand experience with how these two compare as far as pack volume goes? (I'm obviously talking about identical square-footage canopies...)

I'd expect the katana to be a little smaller based on the planform, but am I missing anything in how it's constructed, etc?

Define identical! Some kind of projection of those canopies can be close in area.

If the airfoil is thiner there could be less material used for ribs. For the planform: I guess Katana has only 4 D lines/side vs. there is 5 D lines /side on Sabre2.

"identical" means comparing a sabre2-150 to a katana-150... a 107 to a 107, etc...

Hey LJ,
I made that same transition, though one size up from yours. I had the smaller of the two Sabre 2 sizes recommended by the container manufacturer. The Katana packing difference is so slight it wasn't appreciable in my Mirage. Having said that, I may have noticed it if I were already a size below manufacturer recommendation.

I jump a Sabre2 170. Awhile ago, I demo'ed a Katana 170. Size for Size, I thought the Katana packed up slightly larger then the Sabre2, but it wasn't a significant difference. This preception could have been because of a couple of things... 1) The Katana was a lot "newer" then my SA2... 2) The Katana had the PD Logo on the bottom skin, thus, an extra layer of material on a good bit of the bottom skin.

Anyway, I think my Sabre2 170 packs up smaller then my legacy Sabre 170, but PD has told me, size for size, the Sabre2 and Sabre have the same pack volume... ...so what do I know.
