draba 0 #1 May 20, 2009 Main: student rig PD 260 I don“t know how is that possible..or is it possible at all? After I threw my hand deploy at 1250 meters(cc4100feet)I was stable and waiting for my main do deploy.. I was loosing speed, which means something was above me(I havent managed to see exactly what), but the risers did not came out ..(WHY?) due to decreased speed(it felt really really slow) I didnt have control like at standard belly fly speed and my legs were a bit too much up on my ass so I ended up on my back..at which point the risers finally got out..they got out after around 200 meters(660 feet) or a bit more after I deployed!! When I got rid of the line twists and the canopy was fully inflated I was at 850 meters(2800 feet)...now this was the first jump of the day..the packing procedure was the same as on the next two jumps I made after that.It opened as a blooming flowerSo, I am inexperienced newbie, could not see what was going on above me.. From this explanation of the situation, can someone presume what could have happened? thanx
Andy9o8 2 #2 May 20, 2009 This is just speculation, but: If you have a collapsible pilot chute, is it possible it was not properly cocked before deployment? That can sometimes cause either a PC in tow outright, or difficulty fully extracting the canopy and risers from the container - so that when you went onto your back, the relative wind against all of the partially-extracted gear finally added enough drag to complete the extraction and allow full deployment. It would also be helpful to know what container (and riser covers, etc.) you were using; also whether you deployed at terminal or sub-terminal velocity (if sub-terminal, how long of a delay before tossing your PC?). draba 0 #3 May 20, 2009 thank you for your consideration..well, the procedure when packing was the same for all of the jumps, but I didn't pack the chute myself for that jump(I did for the next 2)..my brother did It was terminal velocity(jumped from 14000"), harness Vector but I don't know about the riser covers or anything else in fact.. riggerrob 643 #4 May 21, 2009 Another possible explanation for your hesitation was the bridle stuffed so deep that it snagged on the plastic stiffener in the bottom flap. I have suffered this hesitation a couple of times until I figured out my packing error. The long term solution is to sew on Javelin style bridle cover that prevents you from wrapping the bridle too close to the corner of the stiffener. erdnarob 1 #6 May 30, 2009 It seems to me that you have suffered a tuck tab riser cover hesitation on both sides. Is your rig equiped with those tuck tabs? If affirmative, I can say that such tabs can cause problem especially a hard opening when one releases a fraction of a second before the other one. Solution to that problem is using Velcro or magnets (like the new Vector III). That will give a deployment always the same.Learn from others mistakes, you will never live long enough to make them all.
