brierebecca 0 #51 July 24, 2006 I just bought an 03 Mini Cooper S, and it's stick. I've never owned a stick before now (it's my 3rd car), but I'm really enjoying it. The little thing drives like a go-cart, has great accelleration, and it's just....well....cute. Driving stick has been fun. It makes driving more like a game. TALONSKY 0 #53 July 24, 2006 Here is another question have you ever driven a manual transmission that shifted on the columnOut of the 9 cars I have owned only 2 have been automatics. My current car is an automatic mainly because I did not want to teach my wife to drive a stick in a new car so I went Automantic. Kirk

Dumpster 0 #56 July 24, 2006 Yep - I drove '74 Maverick with three-on-the-tree. To this day, I cannot figure out why Detroit ever did that. Easy Does It
tdog 0 #57 July 24, 2006 I learned how to drive a stick in a 6 gear 24 foot box truck, on my own, without labels on the stick to show which gear was which, on a very rainy day where I could not see anything in the mirrors because the fogged over, while driving into Downtown Denver to a basement loading dock... My boss threw me the keys and said, "meet you there." I had not yet learned the art of using more than one lane for when needed, so I took out a post on the way into the dock. The next manual transmission truck I drove was a 18 wheeler - with 24 gears. If you have driven a truck - you know once you get the thing rolling the clutch is really useless - you have to match speed - and on the stick there are switches so you go thru all the gears twice. This truck had a high and low for each high and low - if that makes sense. (1 low, 1 high, 2 low, 2 high.... 12 low, 12 high) - but 1 and 7 were the same slot on the stick, just a different lever position... 6 slots on the stick * 2 lever postions * 2 lever positions = 24. Oh... And reverse high and low too. Fun, fun, fun... Then I drove my friends Honda Civic and found how easy it is to shift a car.

VectorBoy 0 #59 July 24, 2006 Quote I purposely bought a 6 speed stick in my truck... I sooooo do not like towing my 7500 lb boat over passes without a stick.. I have yet to see an auto matic that will tow and downshift enough to safely tow a heavy trailer down the passes out here. My Jeep has three sticks.
