Container info

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone! I'm new to skydiving but hoping to get a Spectre 190 in the future. Does it matter what type of container i get to hold the main or not really? Does anyone have any suggestions or helpful information for me? I am about one or two jumps away from my A license and have 26 jumps total so far. I'm looking for this information for the future, not ready to buy yet. Thanks so much!

Virtually every manufacturer will make a container that will take that size of main. Shop around, look at gear, educate yourself, and don't listen to everyone (except me and your instructors).

It is often suggested to buy used gear for your first rig. That is usually good advice. Maybe look in the dz.com classifieds to start educating yourself. Many rigs can have the harness modified to fit you better if the fit isn't as good as you'd like, but the rig is otherwise a good one for you.

At your home dz start paying more attention to the rigs people have, ask questions, ask to try it on, etc... Note that a rig made for someone else may not feel good on you. That does NOT mean the rig is not for you with a properly sized harness.

You want a container that's freefly-proof if you want to try freeflying in the future, you want a container that can hold a 170 too for later downsizing, you want a container that can hold a reserve size that's ok for you now (wingload up to 1:1), you want a container that fits you nice, and you probably want a container that has a metal reserve handle, has BOC, has an rsl and has a kill-line collapsible pilotchute.

Maybe I forgot something ;)

Probably one of the best hot tips there is. After absorbing the tremendous wealth of information from your instructors and the posters here on dropzone.com; and just before making that purchase, don’t forget to contact the manufacturer as well. Just tell us what you’re planning to do. You may be surprised by what you may learn.

That’s where most of your instructors and the posters here on dropzone.com get their information from.
