AggieDave 6 #1 July 20, 2006 Does anyone have a decent 8-channel mixer, speaker setup they'd recommend? Outdoor gig with a couple of guitars and mics. I've found some decent ones on the internet, so it would seem, but wanted to see what the experienced players have used and what they recommended. (Yes I've been reading on musician websites, just thought I'd ask here too, since there are some very experienced players here).--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Beachbum 0 #2 July 20, 2006 Friend of mine had an 8 channel Peavy setup that was really nice, and easy to set up and use ... it's long gone tho. One of the guys I do open mics with now has a pretty nice setup ... will ask him what it is and get back to ya.As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks? I cant really recommend a PA system but as far as mixers go, its Mackie mixers all the way. Mackie I have the 12 channel 1202VLZ Pro. I use it for my studio recording and it can be used for simple live setups. I think its only about $300.00 on Musicians friend It has really nice clean mic preamps__ My mighty steed
Beachbum 0 #4 July 22, 2006 ok ... it's a Yamaha 6 channel (but 2 channels can handle 2 inputs apiece) ... EMX 66M. It's got the amp built into it, and he has the speakers to go with it (nice stands for them too, btw!) Dunno what you're up to ... but I've got a cheapie 4 channel tape system that works well as a mixer for it's price ... welcome to give it a trial run sometime if you want ... just let me know.As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks? skyberdyber 0 #5 July 22, 2006 I have found that anything by Behringer to be the shit. They, HANDS DOWN, will have the best quality for the price. I have a 16 channel mixer for studio stuff and it works great. I also have the 8 channel that I use for the DZ PA during boogies. The 8 channel I found a little flimsy but, hell, it's $40. I haven't played with their powered speakers yet but I am sure it has similar quality. Mackies have a great rep for powered speaks, as do JBL, when it comes to quality as well but may be a little pricier. Total price on the behringer system below is $638. Yamaha and Peavy stuff are pretty standard, nothing wrong with 'em just not top quality. Powered speaks-$598 for a pair: http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl~waGroup1datarq~[waGroup1datarq]~eqint_KeyIDdata~12308~itemNumber~[item_number]~UID~2006072121323430~disp_IMG~Y~catgroup~%5BcatGroup%5D Plus 8 channel mixer- $39.99: http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl~waGroup1datarq~[waGroup1datarq]~eqint_KeyIDdata~34308~itemNumber~[item_number]~UID~2006072121323430~disp_IMG~Y~catgroup~%5BcatGroup%5D I'd really recommend the 16 channel mixer for $179. Or powered mixer: http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl~waGroup1datarq~[waGroup1datarq]~eqint_KeyIDdata~38386~itemNumber~[item_number]~UID~2006072121323430~disp_IMG~Y~catgroup~%5BcatGroup%5D And pick your speaks http://www.skydiveatlanta.com http://www.musiccityskydiving.com

Maybe things have changed in the past 5 years, but that's my belief on mixers. For PA Systems, I found it to be an individual choice. My wife is hotter than your wife.
