I have seen the doctor, but only because he wouldn't prescribe anything over the phone. In my 2 minute appointment that cost me $20 and an hour from work (no, I'm not bitter ), he told me I was having a reaction (duh!) and told me to take Claritin and prescribed me some cream. I had to have allergy shots for ant bites when I was younger. I think my immunity has worn off, if that's possible.

I can't take Benadryl during the day because it makes me too sleepy, so that's why he gave me the Claritin. I don't think it's doing much though, it's just gotten worse.

I spent Sunday on the St. John's River, getting in touch with my inner Redneck. There are these huge ants that fall out of the trees and attack you. I also have a deer-fly bite, but it's not nearly as bad. I even had bug spray on! I don't think I'd make a good Redneck.

Fire Ants suck....A few years back, I made my first trip back to Florida after having moved away when I was 9 years old. We were preparing to go to the beach when I accidentally stood on a fire ant pile. Needless to say I got lots of bites. I didn't really think much of it aside from, "Ouch that hurt!". About 5 mins later we were at the beach and I started itching everywhere. Then I got hives all over my body. Never having experienced an allergic reaction before, I had no idea what was happening. I didn't really connect it with the ant bites. Next thing I knew I was haveing a little trouble breathing...so it was off to the drug store to get some benadryl. Fortunatly that cleared it up quickly. That was the first time I'd had any kind of allergy to anything in my life.

I had about the same thing happen to me, but I was at a DZ in South Carolina. Got the hives all over and my eyes started swelling shut. Had a friend drive me to the local hospital and I sat in the ER for 4+ hours without ever seeing anyone.

After 4 hours I was feeling better so I told them I was leaving and got a cab back to a friends place. They never sent me a bill.
