masterblaster72 0 #485 July 7, 2006 QuoteQuoteSimple -- Italy defeating AU in the round of 16. I'm aware of the large Italian community in AU -- I have third cousins in Perth, and I know the Italian community there (and worldwide for that matter) is rooting for our team. It's the others that I would expect to root for France. Simple, but wrong. People are actually rooting for Italy, because if you're going to lose, it might as well have been to the World Champions. Tim Cahill (Aussie soccer player) has been instrumental in promoting this view. So Aussies are taking a 180 after their defeat a couple weeks back and going with Italy for the final. Right. After reading heaps and heaps of outwardly bigoted swill following that game in here and in other forums and articles, I find that really hard to believe. Even if Tim Cahill is a proponent of the idea. Nonetheless, I care not who you or your compatriots root for, and I'm still not sure why you think I would. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.
masterblaster72 0 #486 July 7, 2006 QuoteQuoteI'm still curious to hear your reasons for hating Italians if you don't mind sharing. Its really not terribly objective I'm affraid! I just remember watching the Mundial from a few years ago and being really really annoyed at the amount of diving the italians were doing... Much much more then the other teams at the time... I wont say that they dive and act more now then the average team does in today's play style (a shame really), but that initial feeling is what made me dislike the Italian team. Hey Remster, I'm curious to know what you think of Henry's theatrics in the Portugal game. I'm NOT saying that this tackle did not warrant a penalty. And I will not call it a "dive". But I'm wondering what you think of his embellishment. Just proves my point about theatrics across the board in the sport these days. Be humble, ask questions, listen, learn, follow the golden rule, talk when necessary, and know when to shut the fuck up.

kirrz 0 #493 July 9, 2006 QuoteQuoteQuote Only suspense left is whether Portugal or Germany will finish 3rd... I will be at the game in Stuttgart going nuts in my Portugal jersey.. hopefully I wont get beaten up! You'll be among Germany fans -- you won't get beaten up. The only fans capable of such savage idiocy are England fans, and they already went home. Coincidentally, the streets of German cities don't have broken glass all over them anymore either. I'll be rooting for Deutschland...I think they will win because they have the offense; Portugal hasn't had much of one in the past few games. Good luck to your team and have fun at the game Just a quick report to say that Stuttgart was insane last night!!!!!! I was the only Portugal fan in my whole block and people were more amused than anything! They kept coming up to chat, taking photos etc.. The atmosphere when Germany won was insane!! I still feel bad and wish Portugal won but I dont think I will ever have another sporting experience like last night!! German fans are so awesome too! Unlike England where the fans pick fault as soon as their team loses, the Germans are such happy happy people (they were even before their team won)! Germany is my second favorite team now! Good luck to France tonight! I hate both teams but I pick France just because Zidane deserves it!
