Studio apartment living

Recommended Posts

So, I'm faced with a decision. I would really like to live on my own, at least for a little while. Has anyone ever lived in a studio apartment? Anything you didn't think about before moving in that ended up really bothering you? Like is it really weird not to have a separate bedroom/living space?

It's just me - no roommates, kids, SO's or anything.

The studio is only $10 less per month than the regular one bedroom, but gas is included in the rent (whereas it's not with the 1 BR). And we all know how high gas bills can be nowadays.

I did live in a studio while living in Michigan some years ago. It was so cute that I was mostly ok with it but I did tend to get restless and having dinner parties proved somewhat interesting what with the bed right there. In other words, it will force you to tidy up -- if you don't already. Is the gas price worth the difference of $10/month. IMHO I would go for the 1 bedroom but only of the money makes sense.

Either way, how exciting for you!!!! You'll love it either way!! Good luck to ya!!! :D:)

I lived in one...it sucked....though it didn't have a "view" and my neighbors were nosie. Oooh and if you walked out of the bathroom you were out the front door as well....hehehehehehe:D[:/]Aaaah the good old days.....

I lived in one up in Minnesota and it was great. My kitchen was seperate and tiny but I didn't need that much room and they also had a very small room off the "main room" next to the bathroom. You could have probably put a twin bed in that area but nothing else. I used it to keep my dressers and stuff like that.

I say give it a try. You don't have to live there forever.

depending on the layout and size you coudl probably just get a screen to divide the bed from the 'living room' area.

i'd probably just say that make sure the oven vent is good or everything can smell like food (maybe):D

Yes I have (twice in fact)... the first one had a fold up bed in the 1 room and everything... (It was my first co-op quarter and wasn't too bad...) I never had anyone over though...

the second time wasn't as pretty... I lived in a basement turned studio apartment and although the rent was cheap (280 a month in Pittsburgh, PA) it wasn't the most ideal living conditions.

one of these days I'm gonna just sell everything and move into a trailer... I'll tell you what though the hardest thing to leave behind will be my books... (I may have to just put them in storage... :D) for when I decide to make my return to the real world... :D

I think that’s a great idea.
Depending on your neighbors, If there cool and not noisy it is so worth it to have your own place with no one else in it.
Just don’t take shit you don’t use, and set it up the way you want it. I have a feeling you will love it.

Buy a flat panel TV it will cost more but will take no space. There is a lot of stuff you can do to save space and make it look nice and open so you don’t feel crowded by your stuff.

I lived in a studio for a year or so (me and two cats :D). It was ok. My place was always a mess, but that's pretty much the case with anywhere that I've lived. It was sort of weird because when people would come over, we'd all end up sitting on my bed. But it was in an apartment complex where we all knew each other, so it was almost like a college dorm or something.

Anyhow, I didn't think it was much different than living in a one-bedroom.
