Jaden 0 #1 June 27, 2006 I made my AFF2 jump this weekend & completely busted my ass on landing. I hit a small runway sign in a huge DZ. This is not my first time with this problem. I am curious...Has anyone had any recent problems with Target Fixation or am I "special." Thoughts & opinions are valued. I can take it.
simplyputsi 0 #2 June 27, 2006 Yes, Don't fixate on a target, rather an area. I learned around jump 60 or so that target fixation was a bad thing. oh and relax, that can have something to do with it sometimes.Skymama's #2 stalker -
Jaden 0 #3 June 27, 2006 Yes, I need to work on this. It's a very painful habit. Thanks...Love the avatar.
simplyputsi 0 #4 June 27, 2006 I think others can give you info on this, come on peoples!!!! IMHO, landing of a parachute has much to do with perception. How fast your going both horizontally and vertically. You need to grasp that concept, be able to judge where you are headed. This isn't an easy thing to do. It will take time. I can't stress how much relaxing can help. You should be on radio guidance right now right? Listen to them, but at the same time realize where you are headed, where you are in the sky. Look forward and not down as well, cause the objects are in front of you. Me likey the new avatar as well.Skymama's #2 stalker -

Why yes, just a few weeks ago I very literally busted my ass (and back) doing just what you described. Sorry, no helpful advice here, other than "Don't do that." We have to deal with the same factors + a big change in weight from jump to jump. I heard a jumper, a couple of months ago, say that they landed in the only tree for miles...twice.Skymama stalker #69!!!!
skydemon2 0 #8 June 27, 2006 I started to land better and even do little swoops when I learned to stop thinking and let it flow..... I used to overthink it... ok Im at 12 feet I have to start my flair etc....Once i learned to disconnect my brain and just react to the canopy it became much easier. Jaden 0 #9 June 28, 2006 That really sucks... I hope you're okay. I didn't break anything but I'm walking funny & haven't been able to sit for 3 days. So...I guess I need to relax & focus on grass. I can handle that. Thanks for the input, guys. Have a great one!

Jaden 0 #14 July 11, 2006 Actually...The most depressing, debililitating part of my incident is the fact that I can not do cardio. I've tried a few times & this worsens my injury. My cardio involves my indoor bike trainer...I still can not sit down, lift, or bend in certain positions. This is the first time in my entire life... That I have felt completely helpless...This really sucks. Personally, I am very uncomfortable with laziness & weight gain. I would rather endure the injury again, although it hurt like hell... If I were only able to exercise. I am hoping my ass is 100% very soon. I am not sure how much more in-activity I can handle... I realize that I walked away...This is all that matters. I should quit my bitching but this remains un-acceptable for me.
grue 1 #15 July 11, 2006 It's a known problem in racing, I can't picture it not being the same with canopy flight. I had to modify my landing during a swoop last weekend and it wasn't easy to keep looking where I wanted to go, not at the guy I was trying not to run over. cavete terrae. happythoughts 0 #16 July 11, 2006 The pea gravel, buildings, trees - all objects. If you want to improve your accuracy, you don't have to go for the peas. I have practiced accuracy by aiming for a dark spot of grass or the tallest weed.
Jaden 0 #17 July 11, 2006 I am dedicated to this sport. I feel that I was born to fly. I am working on my canopy control, as well as my target fixation. I can & will do this with practice. My next jump...I am hoping this week, will be the next step. And I will...Focus on grass.

Jaden 0 #20 July 11, 2006 I know you are...Fortunately, you have the lake. I truly miss swimming, one of my better hobbies. I am in Central FL but I don't swim in the ocean much. Between the salt & pollution it really it doesn't do much for me. I can not wait to go surfing. South Africa is very high up on my destination list.
