meridianjumper 0 #1 July 10, 2006 I am having a bit of problems with connecting to an ISP through my wvdial connection. It used to work up until about 4 weeks ago. My current setup is RedHat 7.0 and I am using an external V.92 US Robotics 56K modem that is connected to the onboard serial port on my PC. When I run wvdial, it dials the number and then it will try to connect. After a short while of trying to connect, it will just give me the message of "No Carrier". I have used a new modem, a different serial port on the box, a different phone line, a different serial cable..... I can connect to it using a Windows box and hyperterminal, but no through my Linux box. Any ideas?? Blue Skies, Jeremy

retreved 0 #3 July 10, 2006 Try using minicom. I am not familiar with wvdial, but with minicom you can pass AT commands directly to the modem to see if it responding and better determine what the problem is.

nathaniel 0 #8 July 10, 2006 Are there any log files being produced, or log messages sent to files under /var/log? Hmm...you could try using pppd instead of wvdial, at least that will give you something to try. Unfortunately pppd is a pain to configure. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir.
