Linux wvdial problem.

Recommended Posts

I am having a bit of problems with connecting to an ISP through my wvdial connection. It used to work up until about 4 weeks ago. My current setup is RedHat 7.0 and I am using an external V.92 US Robotics 56K modem that is connected to the onboard serial port on my PC. When I run wvdial, it dials the number and then it will try to connect. After a short while of trying to connect, it will just give me the message of "No Carrier". I have used a new modem, a different serial port on the box, a different phone line, a different serial cable..... I can connect to it using a Windows box and hyperterminal, but no through my Linux box. Any ideas??

Jeremy

Question for the forum:

Is the Emergency Pancake Bunny Alert system warranted when the original poster is probably making sense, but my own ignorance prevents me from knowing just what the hell he's talking about?

Are there any log files being produced, or log messages sent to files under /var/log?

Hmm...you could try using pppd instead of wvdial, at least that will give you something to try.

Unfortunately pppd is a pain to configure.
My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me, Lebowski?

have you tried rebooting the mid range portal ? sometimes the polarity gets reversed if you get a spike and it needs to be reset!
