talon life cycle

Hi all i was just wondering if there is a life cycle of talon (USA MADE)
as in australia the talons have a 20 year life cycle
any help would be appreciated

There are other countries too where some part of the gear (H/C, reserve)has limited, 20 years or shorter life cycle.

Sandy Reid was always reluctant to assign specific "lives" to American-made Talons.
We used to tease him that the worst feature of the original Talon (pre-1994) was that they were so durable. By 1997, original Talons were considered big and clunky and bulky, but most of them were still airworthy.

so are you saying that if the gear is in good condition there is no sevice life span on the american talon?

The most accurate answer will come directly from RI. I suggest you contact them.

FYI: In the USA, the FAA has certainly given the mfr of any approved parachute the authority to designate such a limit, but I'm unaware of any mfrs that have done so. Nor do the authorities here have any such industry-wide regulation of service life for sport equipment. If RI or any other mfrs have established such a "life cycle," they are certainly exceptional.

Is that because your country has such a law that applies to all sport equipment or to Talons specifically?

sandy@rigginginnovations.com[email]. We have had a few ebay closet queens show up in the loft for cypres kits and whatnot, a couple of them were barely jumped by the looks of them and they were really close to 20 years, never heard a mention about service life...unless they were a used up POS.
