Scooter1812 0 #1 August 8, 2007 I just got a mint condition Sabre 1 170 and I'm worried I might be too heavy for it. I weigh 190 lbs. and that puts the wing loading at about 1.3 I can't seem to find anything from PD for maximum weight. Does anyone know what the specs are for the old Sabre? Not too worried about handling more so about it blowing up. thanks for the help Scooter.....
bob.dino 1 #2 August 8, 2007 I've seen quite a few Sabre150s loaded about 1.3-1.4, so I'd be very surprised if you had issues with it blowing up.
Martini 0 #3 August 8, 2007 I jump my 120 at 1.6, it handles great and if it was going to explode it would have done it by now. I've seen Sabre-1s jumped regularly at 1.8, beyond that they don't seem to flare well. I wouldn't expect more mechanical problems on your Sabre-1 than on other canopies. Go have fun with it.Sometimes you eat the bear..............
CReWGEEK 1 #4 August 8, 2007 When I had my saber 1, I was the same weight and put around 750 jumps on it. No problems.

You weigh 190 pounds Jake, out the door maybe?!?! Sure didn't look like it when you were at my dz! I think you might be over estimating your wingloading.... just a little. riggerrob 643 #7 August 8, 2007 I also weight about 190 (out of the shower) and have hundreds of jumps on Sabre 1-170s. I also have hundreds of jumps on Sabre 1-150s and a hundred or so on a Sabre 1-135. While I admit to over-loading the 135, it still flew well. My guess is that Sabre 1 performance (i.e. glide angle) maxs out at wing-loadings around 1.5 pounds per square foot.
sdctlc 0 #8 August 8, 2007 At 1.3 you should have no problems at all. Like Rob noted above Iam also a person that has jumped a good number of the Sabre (I) series well over the 1.3 load your noting. It is funny to look at the opinions of the Sabre today vs. 15 years ago when it was a much newer and HP canopy. It is a great design and will give back more then you think. The design is very good and will accept the heavier loads with out question. BUT like most non-crossbraced going over 1.7/1.8 really will kill the performance. UDSkyJunkie 0 #9 August 9, 2007 Does anyone know what the specs are for the old Sabre? Not too worried about handling more so about it blowing up. Looks like the PD site has removed the Sabre W/L chart... however, I recall all Sabre's (except maybe the 210 & 230) being recommended at a max W/L of 1.5/1 by PD. Personally, I flew my Sabre 135 at 1.3/1 for years and it was great. I've seen LOTS of people with Sabre's load them past 1.5/1, and some as high as 2/1, without problems. Barring anything crazy, you won't blow it up. I guarantee PD has drop-tested the Sabre at and beyond TSO-like conditions."Some people follow their dreams, others hunt them down and beat them mercilessly into submission."
