waltappel 1 #1 June 22, 2006 ...and there really isn't anything funny about the reality of it, but it's so absurd that I can't help but laugh. From http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,200563,00.html Boy, 3, Hospitalized After Eating LSD-Laced SweeTarts Candy at Party Thursday, June 22, 2006 CEDAR PARK, Texas — The mother of a 3-year-old boy was arrested after her son ate candy laced with LSD during a weekend party. Ashli R. Freas, 22, was charged Monday with child endangerment after taking her son to a hospital. She was released Tuesday on $10,000 bond. According to a police affidavit, Freas and her boyfriend took her son to a party at an apartment. They went outside, leaving the boy inside with another adult. The apartment's leaseholder noticed that his roll of SweeTarts, which had been laced with the hallucinogenic drug, was open and that nine candies were missing. Freas took her son home, then to the hospital after he began hallucinating. Chris Van Deusen, spokesman for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, said the boy will be placed in a foster home after he's released from the hospital. D'oh!!!!!! Walt I don't know man... I don't remember how a 3 year old's system can metabolize that stuff... but there are questions... what did the parents know? did they know drugs were at the apartment? what about the person who owned the sweet tarts? did that person get arrested too? hope the kid recovers and doesn't have any long term effects... hate to see innocent kids hurt like that. Lindercles 0 #8 June 22, 2006 NINE FREAKING HITS?!?!?!?!?!?!?[/B] I mean, I've never done the stuff, but from what I hear 2-3 hits, especially if it's liquid dropped on candy, is enough to keep a grown man high for hours. And this three year old ingested NINE??? This poor kid will never be the same again.

I mean , giving kids enough drugs to almost kill them makes me giggle (dripping with sarcasim if anyone cant tell) whats even funnier is the fact that now we have another child in the system of foster homes which sometimes are good and sometimes not... oh and the costs to tax payers for these parents to get free defense ... oh and the fact the kid coulda died... did I mention crazy funny rolling on the ground type funnySudsy Fist: i don't think i'd ever say this Sudsy Fist: but you're looking damn sudsydoable in this
Slappie 9 #11 June 22, 2006 This is pretty bad.. poor kid will have problems for a long time if not the rest of his life. I mean, can you imagine the cartoon trips his mind took him on. The subconscious is a wild ride. Reminds me of a roomates cat. She had some friends over one night and the cat got ahold of 3 hits. Damn thing laid around for a couple hours then wanted to go outside. Didn't come back for 4 days. Once it came back it looked like it had been to hell, shook the devils hand and traveled back. Hair all matted, tongue hangin out eyes a blaze.. HE was starving from probably not eating for a few days. The cat never went outside except to wiz and he came right back in. From that day forward that cats name was "Trip" and he was the coolest. Well you've gotta figure that the kid had been left unsupervised for a while if he was able to find the stuff and then eat nine of 'em. And this was at an adult party?!!!! Unreal!!!!! When I worked at the nuthouse, we got a patient in who had ingested some huge number of hits of acid. As I recall he spent 48 hrs. or so mostly under a blanket in a private room and was released shorty after that. I didn't talk with him much so I don't know what it did to him. Couldn't have been a good thing, though. Walt

waltappel 1 #21 June 22, 2006 QuoteI would like to know how many of the "experts" in this thread have any usefull or first hand knowledge of the drug or it's effects? LOTS of knee jerk going on here. I'm by no means an expert but I was around in the 70s when there was a great deal of drug experimentation including hallucinogenics (e.g, LSD) and much of it was not pretty. LSD seemed to be very individualized in its effects on people. I had a few friends that took it quite regularly and never seemed to have any problems but there were also others who didn't fare so well. I was also a psychiatric nurse and saw plenty of drug burnouts, but I can't honestly say I saw anyone who was severely damaged by acid alone. I never knew that LSD could be lethal until I looked it up today. Granted, it takes a HUGE amount (something like 1.4 grams for an adult!!!!) so I don't know that the kid was ever in a life-threatening situation, but dumping a large dosage of a hallucinogenic drug on a still-developing brain and nervous system is a very scary sounding thing. They didn't publish any dosages (in micrograms) of those hits of acid but assuming one hit is sufficient for an adult (180 lbs. or so) then the effect has to be magnified on a three year old kid who is a fraction of that weight. And it wasn't one dosage, it apparently was *nine*. Is it possible that the parents honestly didn't know there was drug use in that apartment and that it was possible for the kid to get into some? Certainly, but taking a small kid to what was apparently an adult party and not watching him the whole time at least on the surface wasn't very smart. Does that mean the parents shouldn't have reproduced? That does seem like quite an extreme statement, but it might make a lot of sense to someone who has kids (I don't). If you want judgemental, do a search on that thread on Brittney Spears when she was driving with her kid on her lap. Now *that* was judgemental--especially considering that absolutely no harm was done. In this case, there may well have been harm done. Walt

diablopilot 2 #25 June 22, 2006 I'm saying a lot of jack-leg lay persons are moaning about how fucked up this kid will be for the rest of it's life. When's the last time you heard of parents loosing their kid and going to jail when the chile acidentalyu got into the asprin, or drano, both which are easily more likely to be fatal in the event of an overdose. People make mistakes, and alot of people in this thread seem to be inventing scenorios not indicated in the facts. Secondhand cigarrette smoke is bad for kids too, gonna arrest everyone who smokes around their kids? This sounds like an accident, cut the folks some slack, I'm willing to bet they are happy their kid is alive.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
