Amazon 7 #1 June 22, 2006 I have a 22 mile commute every day to my new job. So now that I am working in the aerospace industry... maybe this would be agood hybrid for me. http://www.ronpatrickstuff.com/ Perhaps the Scooter would be kewl for summer here in the NW. quade 4 #3 June 22, 2006 QuoteCar was built to look as if VW delivered the car this way. Uh . . . no. Ed Welburn, the designer of the modern Beetle, would never make something so fugly as that afterburner section. Also, Ed's interiors are MUCH cleaner than that kludge of an instument panel this guy made. Further, I'm almost certain he'd put the air intake on the OUTSIDE of the vehicle. Then again, Ed probably doesn't "have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University." PhD and puts the air intake on the inside of the car . . . really? I will say this, the car's interior probably doesn't need to be vacuumed a lot. QuoteNotice the kerosene level gauge in front of the gear selector (jet fuel is mostly kerosene) and the bud vase missing a rose. Where did it go? Uh . . . sucked into the jet? Quote Jet keeps sucking the rose out of the bud vase on the dash! Uh . . . didn't I just say that was kinda obvious!quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

AggieDave 6 #6 June 22, 2006 Screw that! 1. Its not a flat-4 2. Its a new "beetle" 3. It wasn't built in Wolfsburg on Porsche's design.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

I was thinking you MAY not want to close the windows in this car...... and since air conditioning is not needed up here in the NW..... you can leave them open most of the time

quade 4 #10 June 22, 2006 In reality, the thing is more about flash (literally!) than speed. It's a big flame thrower, but I can't see how it could possibly beat my VW GTI from 0-60. The engine isn't designed to create thrust, it's designed to turn a shaft which in this car isn't actually connected to anything. The afterburner section doesn't even shape the thrust well. Look at how horrible even the "good" flame is in the first photo and compare it to any other afterburner shot you can find on the web. THIS is what an afterburner should look like.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Scoop 0 #11 June 22, 2006 Yeah. how many mechanical engineers you know that line up components using old books and folders? I liked the 'the hole was probably within 2mm' comment and 'I didnt even need to paint it' WHAT A DICK! Still I suppose its something a little crazy which is good. He gets points for effort! MarkR 0 #18 June 22, 2006 ROFLMAO Working at VW's main facility, I definately need to send this link over to a few guys I know working in Research & Development. I'm sure they'll be liking this one. I am looking forward to hearing from this dude on the Darwin Awards though. »Somewhere between the lies and truths borderlines get shady. Slappie 9 #19 June 22, 2006 Damn and I was fixing to send you pm's wanting to pick your brain about Ballmer and why Taylor quit. He left like he'd killed someone and he was getting out of the country. The Beetle is awesome, I think the jet fuel would probably suckup a bit of change though. And the insurance claims when you kicked her into passing gear might tighten the bank book some. SOOOOOOO silly me I was thinking I would get a promotion and pay raise.... NOPE.....I was tired of betting on the come... and a lateral move was JUST not happening......I was kind of HOPING they would step up and actually pay me You did notice though... that very soon after I left on May 12th....poor ole billg must have been devastated.... and he decided to leave too..... sdctlc 0 #25 June 23, 2006 You have to take it as it is. It is a toy for this guy that has cost him 1/4 of a mil... good for him! I just think it is crazy that people get so uppity about this type of thing. Comparing it to point break or cutaway is silly as they are complete entertainment farse and "suspension of disbelief" is usually a requirement in theose cases. So there are some flaws in his design who cares.. He is getting his "15 min" good for him! http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/object/article?f=/c/a/2006/04/30/JETCAR.TMP&o=0 Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
