Motorcycles for only vehicle.. going to DZ, commuting in the city.. thoughts?

Recommended Posts

Dad's offering to move me back to Australia on his dime if I want, and I'm thinking if I do, I'd like to get a motorcycle and a full textile suit + helmet for commuting, going to the dz, etc instead of dealing with a car.

Anyone do this? If the weather's shithouse, there's actual usable public transportation, so that shouldn't be a big deal.

In college I used only my motorcycle...XT550 dual sport. It was great, awsome gas milage, easy parking, very very reliable. Get a bike that can be equiped with hardcase side containers, good for rain, and security. And, get a girlfriend with a car, for the trips that require it! ;)

I hardly ever use my Jeep anymore. I ride pretty much everywhere I go. But hauling two rigs, camera gear, jump suits, etc...on the back of a bike might prove to be a little challenging. Unless you own a Goldwing with a trailer, that is.......

Just get a junker so you have some cargo room when you need it.

Peace,
Z

If you're in Perth or Qld, the fill ya boots, it's great fun. I only use my van to go the DZ because I cart a load od crap around with me,otherwise I'm on my bike Everyday.

So where's ya dad at?

when i lived in germany my motorcycle was my main means of transportation for much of the .5 years i lived there. it was okay even when i had to throw on the rain suit or the insulated underwear. drove with my gear to the dz ( only 15 minuteson the bike though) and it wasn't a big deal, but then again i only had my rig. jumpsuit, and helmet...and it did make riding the bike more dificult with the added dead weight...(better than having a passenger though).....

And You are considering this? If for no other reason you should stay here so you don't revert back to that wanker accent. You've been doing so well.

Hell yeah. My motorcycle is my only vehicle. Just make sure you get a comfortable bike that you enjoy riding, or it will get old fast. Also, make sure that you are a BAMF. You can't have a motorcycle be your only transportation unless you are a BAMF.

:D:D:D

The problem is that I'm having difficulty locating a proper job, and I'll have several hundred dollars per month in loan repayments start in October. Dad reckons it'd be easier for me to get a job there if I can't find something here. [:/]

what do ya do steve Perth is screaming for skilled people. and the rding weather shits all over Melb:ph34r::ph34r::ph34r::ph34r:

I wouldn't be adverse to going somewhere besides melb, the thing is that I'd have to find a job there BEFORE moving, since i can't afford to move, THEN look for a job. [:/]

I'd be in melb.. I reckon for the non-rainy parts of winter I could ride, but if it were rainy, I'd just take the tram or somesuch

Public transport to Nagambie sucks - you'd need to make friends quick to bum lifts, though that shouldn't be too hard.

Nah, don't think so. It was dude from our motorcycle forum in Wisconsin who filmed it.

I guess nobody noticed the - No animals were harmed during the "editing" of this film? :|

I still can't believe he kept the bike upright. That was a pretty hard hit.

Peace,
Z

Shit, good point. Forgot that extraurban transport can be dicey. Worst case I'll just make dad follow through on his promise to go through AFF, then he'll be at the DZ anyway :D

Wisconsin?
I was actually thinking that series of curves looked familiar.... but there's no way, that would be too freaky.
Whereabouts in Wisconsin?

Just says it was filmed in Southwest Wisconsin.....
