jtval 0 #5 June 14, 2006 the same couple who went to a dz where rick was the instructor and put his life, thelife of his than G/F and his inknown child in danger but putting Shayna, in a rig that was WAY too small for her experience because he was dating her which resulted in all kinds of bad publicity and requests for sponsorship from Shayna? The Same Rick who should have his rating revoked b/c he dated his student and then after his DZO told him he wouldn't put shayna into the air with that rig, went to another DZ and somehow got them to let her in the air with that rig? the same shayna who had a break fire and rode it in until her face literally broke on the ground? The Same shayna who said once the baby is born she will return to the sky? Well, tell them I said congratulations on the baby. I HOPE it is a healthy one. but If she wants to return to the sky maybe she should find a different instructor and take the risk seriously this time. (hopefully she has decided to stay on the ground and stop endangering herself and those around her) I hope the kid gives her a new lust for life...and new interestsMy photos My Videos

jtval 0 #10 June 16, 2006 Wow. It only took 3 days for FOX news to run the story. Seriously, man. If she returns to the sky tell her to be careful, man. If she can turn her shitty situation into a learning situation than good for her. I'll watch the interview in a few minutes. it'll be the time I saw anything from her own wordsMy photos My Videos
JeepDiver 0 #11 June 17, 2006 Healthy baby born to mom after accident Woman learned she was pregnant in ER after surviving skydiving incident. By Sarah Overstreet News-Leader Richard Tanner West earned an eight and a nine on his two APGAR tests — which assess the health of newborn children immediately after childbirth — despite falling 10,000 feet and hitting the ground at 50 mph. Of course, he had only been a teeny guy on this earth, and protected in Mom's womb on Oct. 9, when Shayna Richardson of Joplin "eggshelled" her face, slamming into the earth in a skydiving accident in Siloam Springs, Ark. "We had no idea I was pregnant the day of the accident, but found out that day in the ER," said Shayna, now Shayna West after marrying Tanner's father, Rick West, in April. "They said if (Tanner) had been much further along, he wouldn't have survived the impact," Shayna said Friday from her home in Joplin. Doctors also worried about the effect of the medications she had to take during her recovery, the CAT scans, X-rays and other medical treatment she had to undergo. But West gave birth to a strapping (7 pounds, 13 ounces, 19 inches) baby boy on Tuesday, and everything's going great for the family. "I'm going to spend the majority of my time with Tanner," Shayna said. "I'm looking at outside sales and travel agency work that I can do from home. Rick's getting ready to go to electronics school ... and start working in a computer job." After her amazing survival, numerous media outlets told her story. Now that Tanner's here, she's appeared on CBS's "Early Show" and Fox's "Inside Edition." As other television programs learn of the healthy, sky-falling newborn, others will undoubtedly follow. Despite her ordeal, Shayna West says she's been extremely lucky in the care she's been given. A skydiving friend, Dr. Steve Garcia of Fayetteville, Ark., made the dental partials she's been wearing, charging her nothing. Dr. Alan Meltzer, a Voorhees, N.J., periodontist, will begin her dental implant surgery in October — also free. "He found me in one of the magazines I was in," Shayna said. "He does cosmetic dental work on celebrities." After the accident, doctors put 15 metal plates in her face. Along with her facial injuries, the 2002 Ash Grove High School graduate fractured her fibula and her pelvis in two places. She says she still needs plastic surgery under her eyes and laser scar surgery "to look like I used to," but doesn't have the money for that yet. And will she skydive again, after all she's been through? The answer is the same as it was when she talked to the News-Leader in December: You bet. "My doctor told me that six weeks after my baby is born I can jump again. I'm going to do a tandem jump (jumping with another skydiver) just to get my feet back on the ground ... . I'm not afraid of going back. I'll do my tandem, then I'll be all right." But her tandem partner won't be husband Rick, also an experienced jumper. "We both agreed not to have Mommy and Daddy strapped into one parachute."

JeepDiver 0 #19 June 20, 2006 Personally I think it's wonderful that two people, now, didn't die months ago skydiving. I am not the sharpest knife in the draw. Shayna may be all that she can be. She was one day. Regardless, the girl does have spunk. It may be why she is still alive and not dead today. The house I live in is a glass house. I do try to remember that even when I fail too. I see that alot of people have refrained from posting how they feel about what happened then. I hope my post does not prompt them to now. When I see the eyes of a child, well, I'm happy for the both of them. Now in retrospect, I'd like to have a beer with the both husband and wife somewhere someday. I wish them the very best.
