councilman24 37 #8 August 31, 2007 All true, but... Often when buying used components somebody has left the d bag, risers and pilot chute on the main. If buying a used container only double check with the seller what comes with it. To replace the risers, d bag and PC can be $200 - $400.I'm old for my age. riggerrob 643 #9 August 31, 2007 Thirty years ago, that was a very confusing subject. Then in the early 1980s, canopy manufacturers ganged up against container manufacturers and wrote Parachute Industry Association Technical Standard 102, which specified which components were supposed to be supplied by which manufacturer. TS102 says that canopy manufacturers are responsible for supplying little more than canopy, lines, slider and connector links. All other components (pilot chutes, bridles, deployment bags, risers, closing loops, etc.) are the responsibility of the container manufacturer. In practice, high-wear items (i.e. main risers) are often sold with main canopies. Since main risers wear out faster than harnesses, it is prudent to replace them every 600 to 1200 jumps, so just try to talk the (harness) seller into reducing his asking price. Same thing with the dbag/pc - your container may be setup for a pullout - and you most likely will have a throw out PC - again, would be fairly useless :)
