shaiziel 0 #1 June 12, 2006 Just got a letter from my insurance company yesterday letting me know my premium has changed to about $102/mo for full coverage on my 2000 Saturn LS1. Down from $143 w00t! More money towards AFF! How much are you paying and what kind of car do ya drive?---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there!
NWFlyer 2 #2 June 12, 2006 I think I'm down to about $80/month for full coverage (that includes very high liability limits) on a 2001 Passat GLX. Ah, the benefits of being female, over 30, and having a squeaky clean record for almost 10 years. Edited to add I'm not sure I've ever paid more than $100/month for full coverage, even when I was younger and/or driving brand new cars. Your poll options seem a bit skewed towards men under 25 driving expensive cars. Either that or you might want to get a new insurance company."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. shaiziel 0 #4 June 12, 2006 Hah. "Expensive" cars just inflame an already big number. Even liability when I was 17 on a 84 Dodge Ram was $112. My 87 Volvo 240D was no better with liability. Switching insurance companies would be a joke. I'd have to get on my own policy (riding my parents right now) and premiums for single car, no house, etc are stout. Of course I was leaving room for some of our forum people who have ticket problems. ---------------------------------------- 6.8% - Almost there! matt1215 0 #6 June 12, 2006 $400/6mo for full coverage on my 2002 Protege-5 Hatchback in Florida. Went up when I bought my car a few months ago. I used to pay $310/6mo for full coverage on my 1997 Nissan 200SX when I had it registered at my parents' in WA, my own policy with the same agent. I also paid $360/6mo for full coverage on the same Nissan when my parents lived in CA and I was on their policy.

sharimcm 0 #8 June 12, 2006 Well, I drive a 2006 Honda Civic EX and a 1995 Honda del Sol Si. My Civic is about 85/mo for full coverage, and my del Sol is about 45/mo for full coverage. So, total about 130/mo for two cars... jloirsdaan 0 #10 June 12, 2006 QuoteYour poll options seem a bit skewed towards men under 25 driving expensive cars. I was surprised at the low prices. I'm 22, my wife is 24 and we only have one car. A 2002 Chevy Malibu. And we pay like 150-175 a month. Neither one of us has had a ticket in a while. My wife did get in a wreck....but it was the other guys fault. I might should look into why I'm paying so much. She usually handles all the finances.....maybe she's just telling me we're paying that much and...... Jordan Go Fast, Dock Soft. NWFlyer 2 #11 June 12, 2006 True, maybe I jumped the gun on the prices ... I do know that being female is automatically a big, big advantage when it comes to auto insurance rates. And of course, it's not just the car you're driving or your gender or your age ... it's where you've got the car registered .... it's your driving record (mine's always been good) ... it's your history with the insurance company ... it's whether you have multiple policies with the company (I do). Yada yada yada. If you're a Costco member, it's worth getting a quote through them - the coverage is through Ameriprise Insurance. I've used it for the past six or seven years or so and have found the rates to be better than any other quotes I'm eligible for. (Although I've heard if you're eligible for USAA, that's the way to go).
NWFlyer 2 #12 June 12, 2006 It probably has mostly to do with your ages. YOu should have some advantage for being married, though. And, you may want to look into taking yourself entirely off the policy when you're in Iraq (or bumping you down to "occasional driver" if you haven't already). Sad to say, as the male in the family, you're likely the one contributing the most to the cost of the insurance.
matt1215 0 #13 June 12, 2006 Quote<<< (Although I've heard if you're eligible for USAA, that's the way to go).>>> Not so in my experience. USAA was the best rate for renter's insurance, but the auto quote I got from them was obscene ($725/6mo). I took Geico's $400/6mo instead for the same coverage. jloirsdaan 0 #14 June 12, 2006 Yeah we did that last time I was out here, but this is the first time I'd even remembered that this time around . Wow, that'd have saved some more $. Too late now probably, I'll be home for good in 60 days. Probably not worth the hassle. Gee where was that suggestion 9 months ago . edit to add: Wow, I'm still the only one in the $150-199 range...which is the highest so far..... Jordan Go Fast, Dock Soft. NWFlyer 2 #15 June 12, 2006 Okay, maybe not for everyone... I've never been USAA-eligible so I've never tried. (But kudos for getting renters' insurance! Too many people don't bother with that till it's too late). Bottom line, shop around, think about what you really need. Does your old beater car really need full collision coverage? But I would strongly suggest not skimping on liability. Some states have ridiculously low minimums for liability coverage (it's $25,000/person, $50,000/incident in Washington, for example). I got hit (as a pedestrian) by a guy and my medical costs blew through that amount incredibly fast. Fortunately, I hadn't skimped on my Uninsured/Underinsured motorists coverage, so there was plenty to pick up the remainder. For me, to go from $100,000/$300,000 to $250,000/$500,000 on both liability and uninsured/underinsured didn't increase the cost much, and with medical costs the way they are, I feel a lot better having that kind of coverage.
matt1215 0 #16 June 12, 2006 Wow, I guess I'm skimping on my liability. I don't see numbers anywhere near 250k/500 . Biggest numbers I see are 50k/100k for "Bodily Injury Liability" and 50k for "Property Damage Liability". I'm quite ignorant of all the different types of coverage, even as to why they use 2 numbers for certain coverages. I think a visit to the base legal office with my policy so they can translate it for me is in order .
