Dixie Chicks?

Recommended Posts

The only reason I wouldn't buy a Dixie Chicks album is that I'm not a country music fan. I, unlike most conservatives, don't care about the politics of entertainers. I like several artists and bands in spite of, not because their politics.
Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off.

Because the public listens to their opinions. Many of the masses need someone/something to live life vicariously through. Stars/singers are that outlet for them.

I happen to like the Dixie Chicks. I like their music but, I don't want to hear their politics. That little fat one, needs to shut-up! I'm not ready to make nice... but, I'll listen to their music. I grew-up listening to Roy Acuff, Flatt & Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams and Eddie Arnold. I think the Dixie chicks have talent. They're good musicians. One thing bothers me though. They are against the war in Iraq but, they had a song out; 'Earl's Gotta Die'. How messed-up is that?

I agree. I hope that they have learned something from all of this and don't continue down this public political pathway.

Its all prepackaged, industry written crap. OR its copied music and/or cover music from someone who is a true musician.

Ok Dave, you KNOW we have the same tastes in music. B| However, if any of the nashville acts have bucked the "system" it is the dixie chicks. They write almost every song and the music to go with it, they are all incredibly talented musicians at SEVERAL different instruments, and they use an Austin based producer (Maines) I like their music, most of it anyway, and i could care less about their political views.:)

Never look down on someone, unless they are going down on you.

"Whether they're good or not isn't quite the point is it? Why the fuck do celebs think their opinion is worth anything?"

Exxxxxactly!!

I think Natalie Mains stepped into something she kinda wished she never had...and now that the ball has kept rolling she has to go with it. I went to see them in concert like 3 yrs ago...they are good...but I won't listen to them or see them because her statement rubbed me the wrong way, when she dissed Toby Keith.

I'm not political. I avoid political discussions like the plague.

I don't buy music because of someone's opinion, what they wear, own, do or anything else. I don't buy any "band brand" stuff that has a bands name plastered all over it, either.

Most of the time when I buy music, it's just for the beat or some words I liked in the song. I couldn't tell you in most cases how many folks were in that band or what their individual names are. For me...it's all about the music. That's it.

Have you heard their first release? "I'm not ready to make nice." They're still proud of what they did.

This is the best publicity they've ever had. However I've only heard their release on Sirius, and Good Morning America. Not on any of the country radio stations.
They've already said they dont "need" country radio, because the types of people who listen to country radio are not the types of people they want listening to their music.
However, country radio is not the only venue to record sales. I just dont see them fitting in to the Austin music scene. Its way too relaxed for those hyper twits.

The article I read in Time magazine said: "There's a technology called the "Dial" where listeners react to songs, and every time we test the Dixie Chicks..." Carter makes a noise like a boulder falling from a high cliff. "It's not the music, because we're playing them the hits they used to love. it's something visceral. I've never seen anything like it."***

Post: It's been three years since the Dixie Chicks made an unpopular stand in London on President Bush and politics. The public dropped them like a hot potato.

They are now attempting to change their style and make a comeback. They have a new album. If you are political, has enough time passed and enough water gone under the bridge that you would buy their music now or not?

Never listened to them before the incident .Country music seems to have become mundane. Give me some old Honky-tonk.
Until they truly decide to eat humble pie, they will alienate the biggest portion of the country base, which comes down to lots and lots of money.

Some of their music's alright. Not real crazy about most of it. Two years ago they sang the Star Spangled Banner before the Superbowl & did it really nicely.

Not like some singers who fuck it up & Whitney-Houston-ize it just to show off.

There ok, I like some of there music.
Their view of the president was not wrong in my book, and I don't see what the big deal is.

They said how they felt, there is cameras with clebs no matter what they do. If one of them would have taking a shit outside that would have been all over the place too.

Any one holding a grudge listen up, They don't give a fuck what you think. There still making music, making money, and in my book have respect. Not because I agree with what they said, but because they had the guts to say something other then stock PC bull shit.

Depends on what they ate the day before.:S

Anyway, yeah I think it's time to get over it. Who cares what they think about Bush anyway. People have their own minds made up about the Prez anyway, so no one's gonna change because of what one famous person said years ago.

I don't think political opinions should mean anything with regards to an entertainer. Even personal thuggery is not necessary - I'm a huge Frank Sinatra fan, and always have been despite his criminal ties.

There's only one situation that I take great issue with - I will never, ever, ever pay a dime to see any Roman Polanski film because of the horrible and disgusting crime he committed, and then fled from justice.

I still am not FONDA JANE and thats been 30+ years

I only took 10 years to be Jane Fonda. What's your hold up?

Maybe you can be Jane Fonda if you keep trying really hard. It's never too late to be Jane Fonda.

It's been three years since the Dixie Chicks made an unpopular stand in London on President Bush and politics...

Oh, they've been up to no-good again recently too. And they're paying a price for it:
Dixie Chicks tour struggling in several markets

"Ticket counts for the 20-plus arena shows that went on sale last weekend were averaging 5,000-6,000 per show in major markets and less in secondaries... Venue capacities on the tour generally top 15,000... early ticket sales are clearly not meeting projections. The plug was pulled on public on-sales for shows in Indianapolis, Oklahoma City, Memphis and Houston because of tepid pre-sales... The Memphis show has been pulled off the route and the status of the shows in Indianapolis, Houston and Oklahoma City remains uncertain. Industry speculation has it that much or all of the tour may be postponed..."
Source: Yahoo News

If they want to take political stands, that's their right. But they're going to pay the price for pissing-off a large segment of the public upon which they depend for their wealth.
