Dixie Chicks?

"Whether they're good or not isn't quite the point is it? Why the fuck do celebs think their opinion is worth anything?"

Exxxxxactly!!

I think Natalie Mains stepped into something she kinda wished she never had...and now that the ball has kept rolling she has to go with it. I went to see them in concert like 3 yrs ago...they are good...but I won't listen to them or see them because her statement rubbed me the wrong way, when she dissed Toby Keith.

I don't care for the fact that Natalie Mains, started that shit with Toby Keith, either. Toby, was man enough to back-away and let her run her mouth. The fact she said what she did, in London, she definately shot herself in the ass, with that. The Dixie Chicks are entertainers and when entertaining, need to do just that... entertain. They need to keep their politics to themselves. I still, like their music but, I won't buy it or go see them.

It's been three years since the Dixie Chicks made an unpopular stand in London on President Bush and politics. The public dropped them like a hot potato.

They are now attempting to change their style and make a comeback. They have a new album. If you are political, has enough time passed and enough water gone under the bridge that you would buy their music now or not?

Ok, I'll bite. Who are the Dixie Chicks?

Fuck the Dixie Chicks!

I still am not FONDA JANE and thats been 30+ years

When she had a controlling interest in Budweiser beer it was no longer allowed in our home. When we were still in the army, we wouldn't order it in bars when we went out. Anyone caught with that shit at our parties was asked to kindly get the f*ck out. (Anyone that brought it was a civilian, because NOBODY in Joe's unit would dare bring it)

To the original poster (boinky): many of us were not even born when Jane Fonda did what she did. We still will not support her, I don't care how much water has been under the bridge...

I think the Dixie Chicks are idiots, and I agree with ChaosKitty's post.

Plus I don't like their music anyway...

Oh and PS...her interest in Budweiser was released, so we can enjoy the King of Beers again if we choose...'course now we have a bit more 'educated palettes' and we go with the higher brow stuff. :P

Any one holding a grudge listen up, They don't give a fuck what you think. There still making music, making money, and in my book have respect. Not because I agree with what they said, but because they had the guts to say something other then stock PC bull shit.

I don't listen to them, not my style. their opinion is just that; an opinion. and I have no problem with someone expressing thier opinion BUT I think she did it in a very cowardly manner. she was overseas, felt she could gain the audience respect by denouncing her president. Until that incident I didn't hear her talking her political bullshit in the states.

It was all about the money. There are people on tv all day talking about their political views. the GREAT thing abou tthat is I expect to see it on those channels/shows. It drives my nucking futs that someone who is famous is portrayed as having some sort of insight. MOST of them don't they are spoiled little rich kids.

I think the only musician, that I know of, who is informed on his views is Bono. The cool thing is ( as far as I know) he doesnt preach his shit at his concerts.

For claiming to be tolerant, fuck-the-system kind of people, there sure are some hard-core narrow-minded bitches around here.

The comment that was made on stage was that she was embarassed that Bush was from her home state of Texas. Granted, the stage isn't the best place to voice opinions, but they're still entitled to their opinion. Lots of celebrities were speaking out for or against the war... big deal. At least they weren't spouting off some non-sense about the dangers of psychiatry and antidepressants. (BTW, I think Cruise is a moron, but if he shows up in a decent movie, I'll still go see it) They caught a lot of flak I think because (to stereotype here) country fans are extremely patriotic, but they refused to apologize for the comment. If you hate them for that, you'll have to hate on The Boss too:

  Quote

In a recent interview with US network ABC, Maines said she regretted her comment but remained passionately against the war.

(Bruce) Springsteen said there was a "pressure coming from the government and big business to enforce conformity of thought concerning the war".

He said pressure "goes against everything that this country is about - namely freedom".

"Right now, we are supposedly fighting to create freedom in Iraq, at the same time that some are trying to intimidate and punish people for using that same freedom here at home," he said.

"I don't know what happens next, but I do want to add my voice to those who think that the Dixie Chicks are getting a raw deal, and an un-American one to boot. I send them my support."

I think he put it pretty well.

That being said - I don't think they're hurting. Concert sales aren't hopping, but their new album debuted at #1. I forget the exact numbers, but the record sales over the first two weeks are like 400,000. I think concert sales are down because most of the people that want to go see them now don't want to pay $60 to sit in a massive fucking arena. I don't think they're 're-inventing themselves' either. I'm not a huge fan, but I have been listening to them off and on through the years. They've been heading this way for awhile. That makes sense - they've lost some of the party and twang and grown up a little - I think they're all mothers now actually. And they always have been talented - they can actually sing their own tracks, play numerous instruments, and write their own songs -- you don't stick around this long and become the biggest selling female act of all time by being no-talent hacks. So yeah, less about boys and partying and causing trouble, and more about the uncertainty of war, and the trouble with speaking your mind. I might actually go buy this one - the little I've heard is pretty impressive, and I like the fact that they're not willing to suck anyone's ass to make nice and get airplay. "I'd rather have a smaller following of really cool people who get it, who will grow with us as we grow and are fans for life, than people that have us in their five-disc changer with Reba McEntire and Toby Keith. We don't want those kinds of fans. They limit what you can do." If it's not for you, then that's cool. But if political views or being labeled as 'country' is what's keeping you from even listening, that's kinda sad.

Actually, yeah, I think I'll go pick it up right now just to piss you off. :D

In Pigeon Forge, Tenn, there is a bear show. You can go in there and be entertained by bears. The bears understand the process.

Entertainment is a service. When you aren't getting the service, you don't need to pay for it.

Linda Ronstadt got a little preachy and people walked out too. We have a local unemployed comedian that ceased to be funny also.

There is an implied arrogance that the performer feels the need to "inform" the ignorant masses in the communication age. We can all read and think.
It is a disrespect.

Many country fans regard things as a package deal.
Country is partly an identity. (You don't really need the hat at 9pm indoors at an air-conditioned concert.) The comments, that the DCs made, threw it in the face of their fans.

Most reasonable people would immediately see it as a bad idea to offend your audience (clients).

People will just go see a different group of bears.

I've never really liked their music, but I have to say I respect the fact that Natalie had the guts to speak her mind and the other band members had the guts to unapologetically stand behind her in the face of mass hysteria. I have since purchased every CD they've put out. I also think it speaks volumes that the Dixie Chicks are the only female group ever to have 3 albums debut at number 1.

Keith, since when has your opinion mattered on subjects of the pres.?
Hell, he doesn't even condone your existence:P:P

(I'm sure Keith will find this sarcasm humorous, hopefully the rest of you can too)

Anyone can speak their mind. By the 6th grade, we should have learned that there are consequences.

Unless they are incredibly dumb, why not expect a reaction from a notoriously conservative listener group ? Their remark contained comments about being from Texas, but finding the Pres an embarrassment.
Did they expect Texans and country music fans to have no reaction ?

In Tampa, we have a county commissioner that dislikes gays, stripper, alchohol, and whatever else she isn't getting. If she loses an election, it was her choice to speak her mind.
