Trading Bag and Pilot Chute

Recommended Posts

Hi All!!!

I own a Mirage G3 - mxs 1.2 and currently my bag and my pilot chute are a few thousand miles away at my rigger doind some work.

I wonder if its ok tu use a main bag and a pilot chute of a Racer 300;300, about the same main size of my Mirage?

Hope it does not sounds irresponsable!!!

Main bags and pilot chutes can be inter changed. In theory only by a rigger but often done by owners. I don't know the relative sizes well enough to comment on the particular combination. But, the main bag should fill or slightly (IMHO) over fill the container so that there is proper tension on the flaps. IOW you don't want the bag so small that it rattles around the container.

But, be sure the PC is compatable. Not pull out versus throw out, that any velcro is where it needs to be, that the size it appropriate for you main, zp versus non zp and size, collapsible if you want, bridle length, etc. For the most part if it's the right type (i.e. throw out), about the right size for the material (zp or not) it should work fine. Have a local rigger double check.

Also be aware that different PC's and bags may have different attachement methods. Or for instance a one bag might have a #5 gromment and stay near the canopy and another might have a #8 and be designed to slide up to the PC (rarer these days).

Also just because it's in the Racer doesn't mean that it's the original. It may or may not be the one that came with rig. (Your changing yours!;)) You or the rigger need to judge the PC and bag itself, not base a decision on what is standard with that rig.

I apologize to everyone for this rant but I get so tired of seeing so many questions about Mirage's posted here on dropzone.com. As good of a resource that this website may be for information, there is still no substitute for contacting the manufacturer.

When I was going through my rigger training I probably heard that if we had any questions to....."contact the manufacturer" a million times.

We are just skydivers just like everyone else on here, and personally I we are a pretty personable bunch of folks that are anxious to answer your questions in as timely of a manner as we can.

So with this said.....why do I see questions on this site every single day about our rigs that can so easily be answered by us directly from the manufacturer.......without a chance that any misinformation is being handed out?

Please feel free to contact the manufacturer with any questions you may have. As good as this site can be for info, there is no substitute than the creators of your product.

Feel free to contact me directly at ward@miragesys.com for any questions regarding your Mirage harness container.
