The Parachute and Its Pilot by Brian Germain

Jump! Skydiving Made Fun and Easy by Tom Buchanan

and of course the SIM

The SIM is necessary but the other two are great informational sources

:)

All books mentioned are excellent but to complete your new skydiver education you can go and download on the CSPA web site at www.cspa.ca and make your choice like PIM1, PIM2 for a good start. Moreover your local DZ should have probably its own manual about the first jump to the A or even B license.
Learn from others mistakes, you will never live long enough to make them all.

Relax, it's not as bad as it may seem. Besides, what's in that book may save your life some day. Your MBA probably won't. I know mine hasn't.

Anyway, here's a handy tool to focus study for each particular license exam.

See.....not so bad.

OK cool...good think i'm off on a business trip soon.
I can read it while stuck between two very fat men in the middle of the plane!

I'll also get the first book mentioned...looked very good.
Who knew jumping out of a perfectly good airplane would require a test!

You might consider attending the First Jump Course and jumping out of an airplane before you read these books. The books have a lot of information, and you don't want to be overwhelmed.

Otherwise, make sure you realize that these books can only supplement your knowledge. They can help you ask the right questions. Your instructors will tell you what you need in order to live, even if they dumb it down a bit from what the books say.

Knowledge is good my friend. You aren't going to do yourself any disadvantage by reading the SIM before your first jump course. I read it before I made my first jump and I think it made the FJC much easier as I already knew (or was at least familiar with) 75% of what was covered. Be careful what you read around here on the forums as people can say some pretty nutty things, but generally speaking the USPA isn't going to steer you wrong.

So... when's your first jump?
Less talking, more flying.

I have to pay for and install a hot water heater this week end....and I'm off on a buisness trip to Florida next week. I hope to have my credit card cleared by the time I come back and I would like to start as soon as possible.
