I was out there in May with my Mom - the place we rented was right on the water and EXCELLENT! It's huge, so take some company. I'll get the info and PM it to you.

cool! thanks! there will be 7 of us going, including 2 small kids. i've never been, so i'm kind of lost. I'm hoping to find something walking distance to the beach and a pool.

went there every summer as a kid...some of the best memories of my life. It's an amazing place.

We always stayed at the north end, the Duck/Southern Shores area. it's beautiful, the beaches and people are great, and it's not nearly as crowded as some of the other mor popular places like Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach.

Have fun!

the outer banks is awesome... usually they are booked way far in advanced -corolla is definitely a great place to stay - you'll probably be able to find some stuff but pickings will be slim..

it really is a great place to go though - have a blast ;)

I went every summer growing up...and most recently last summer. I've stayed pretty much everywhere from Southern Shores to Corolla Light. My favorites were Pine Island (between Duck and Corolla), Ocean Sands (which technically may be Corolla) and Corolla. As someone else mentioned, things are booked way in advance. If you have any questions about specific areas, feel free to PM me.

I just got back from a week in Corolla, had a great time. My fiancee's family goes there every year and we've tagged along each of the last two years. There are lots of rental agencies, but they deal with two called Twiddy (http://www.twiddy.com/) and Sun Realty. As an example, the house we stayed in is called Celtic Shore; it's got 5 BR, a pool, and a hot tub. It's on the sound, not the ocean, but the island's only only about half a mile wide at that point, so it's not a big deal to get to the beach. Anyway, check with the local rental companies and I'm sure you'll be able to find a house that meets your size/budget needs.

Anyone know if it's possible to do a beach jump there? :-)

My family, boyfriend and I were there last May -- We rented a big house in Waves. We had 6 adults and 2 kids. The house had a pool, hot tub, pool table, just a few steps from the ocean.

Here's where we rented from: http://www.surforsound.com

We had fun. Went up to Kill Devil Hills, the Wright Bros museum, tried hang gliding, checked out the light houses, etc. Pretty place. It was a little chilly in May but the rates were a lot cheaper than in the summer.

Edited because I just realized I might be advertising. I'll send you a PM. As far as what area to stay, Duck is my favorite place in the world; I lived there for a couple of years and still go back several times a year.
