LouDiamond 1 #3 June 1, 2006 This has been discussed before and there are at least 2 threads in different forums on this topic. The device is known as the Skyray, it was shown at the last PIA in fact. Even with its new proposed built in engines, it is completely unfeasible for use in a combat situation. Chalk this up as another example of someone with no operational experience attempting to put a square peg in a round hole. Where is the 100lbs of equipment(rucksack), ya know the stuff you need to fight, survive and do the mission supposed to go? The typical rear or front mounted rucksack isn't going to work or is aerodynamically detrimental. Not to mention they want the user to lower the wing after deployment. HELLO? What idiot came up with that idea? Having a 100 lb rucksack dangling at the end of a 12 foot lowering line is bad enough, which is why most HALO guys lower the ruck and hold it up with their feet until the last possible moment to avoid the pendulum effect. Adding a winged contraption along with 100lbs of must have equipment hanging underneath one while under canopy is not only bad business, it is insane. Don't get me wrong, its a great idea and advancement but its simply not practical for a real combat or any military application."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
derivative 0 #4 June 1, 2006 Well, I guess you could just put everything into the handy-dandy parachute/storage area, huh? You're right, not very practical for carrying stuff, but it looks like a lot of fun. ...the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, and make it possible. - T.E. shermanator 4 #5 June 1, 2006 wait, so what happens when you decide to put only cargo and not a parachute in the parachute/cargo compartment.... or are they gonna attach wheels to the person jumping it, obliviating the need for a parachute. i think they call that.. hang gliding?CLICK HERE! new blog posted 9/21/08 CSA #
