MrBrant 0 #2 May 26, 2006 yeah but how much of that is duty/GST and how much of it is "brokerage fees"?
kelel01 1 #3 May 26, 2006 I thought that said "Canada Custom SOCKS." I wasn't too excited, but I was intrigued.
gulaz 1 #4 May 26, 2006 I think canada customs only charges $5 for handling or something. The rest is 8.5% duty, and 7% GST. Maybe something else. At least they dont ahve PST on top of it. Between customs, and the cost of shipping, its like 1/4 the cost of the helmet. Bastards at customs want my money.
gulaz 1 #5 May 26, 2006 See, custom socks wouldnt really intrigue me... not even enough to look and see what it said. But i guess customs is even less interesting. I just want my new helmet.
CanuckInUSA 0 #6 May 26, 2006 I’ve got a ####ed up Canada Customs story for you. Last year while still living in Colorado, my Sony camcorder malfunctioned and I brought it in to a local Denver repair shop to have them fix it. The repairs took a long time to fix (6+ months), so long that by the time the camcorder was fixed I had already moved back to Canada. When the camcorder was ready to be shipped back to me, I told the shop to clearly label on the box as “repairs” which while they could have done a better job with the label, it was labeled. Anyway, Canada Customs wanted to charge me $100 for customs duties on a new product. WTF I said. This was a camcorder which was purchased by myself while I was living and working in the US and the only reason why it wasn’t with me when I returned to Canada was because it was in the shop for repairs. Well after some frustrating telephone calls to FedEx (having to provide proof of purchase receipts and all that sha-bang) I got my $100 duty lifted. But I still had to pay $50 for customs brokerage fees. Sharks I tell you, they’re all a bunch of sharks just waiting to prey upon everyone and anyone in order to make a buck. Slappie 9 #7 May 26, 2006 QuoteFree trade my ass … there is no such thing. Yes there is, you just need someone like myself who knows the ins & outs to handle that shit for you. I deal with international brokerages, customs & government agencies for a living. It's really pretty easy. A trained monkey could do my job. Good thing though, this is one job that can't be outsourced nor be replaced by a robot. Takes a humans touch. IF the product was made in the US with SU goods you could request a NAFTA cert from the manf. That will get you the goods duty free as for taxes and brokerage fees. Those are pretty common.
