How many milligrams of Ibuprofen can I take?

Two liquigel 200mg advils and one 500mg rapid release Tylenol. It kicks my migraine's ass. Works for sinus headaches too.

One of my son's soccer coaches swore that the Advil liquigels worked faster than anything else. I haven't bought them yet, but maybe I will now.

Kelli, don't take too much ibuprofen. I've been taking a lot lately because of back pain, still drank my normal amount of liquor and ended up with an ulcer. Ouch. B|

Alright, Johnny-come-latelys. :P I actually did take the extra 400mg, but I won't do it again. I don't want to go into liver failure.

And I did take the caffeine. I knew that much. I just wish I'd had my Imitrex on me. [:/] Imitrex is the shiz-nit, especially in the form of a shot.

If I weren't in public, I would have. That usually helps . . . or it at least puts me to sleep. :D

So your kung fu is not at masters level yet? A true master can jerk off in public without being noticed. Discrete is the key word here. Try it some time. What have you got to loose? Turning on every male in the immediate area? It’s not that bad… really. Stop being such a pussy.

I'm pretty sure it is Tylenol that screws with your liver. Ibuprofen screws with your kidneys. Anyway, 800mg of Ibuprofen at one time is usually the most you should take. It is the same as a motrin. 4-6 hours later, the extra 400 should be OK. Since you already took it, I'm sure you will be OK if it is a 1 time thing. I just wouldn't do it everyday.

With all that said, Ibuprofen does not work on migraines.:|

When you get a chance, get yourself a prescription to have on hand. It is much safer. Besides kicking the shit out of your liver and kidneys, analgesics will cause 'rebound' headaches and then it becomes a viscious cycle. Generally a neurologist will use an anti-seizure drug such as tegretol to keep the headaches from ever starting.

Hope you feel better Kel,
Chris

headaches are a fact of life... why must we medicate everything, even things which are normal

True, headaches are very common; but they vary in intensity. I personally would not medicate a normal tension headache. Migraines are a different breed. If you ever experienced one, you'd know what I am talking about.

2 mths with a consistent headache and random migraines, countless doctor visits, an MRI, 3-4 tries with various medicines i finally got mostly rid of them.. that or just learned to ignore the smaller ones. that was 8 yrs ago. I think i fairly experienced :)

Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?

Then you were a lot luckier than I was. Severe Traumatic Brain Injury from a fall down a flight of stairs striking my head on a stone floor. Severe Post Concussion Syndrome which I am still in recovery 34 months later. 3 MRI's, 1 MRA, 2 SPECT Scans, 6 CT Scans, 6 Ambulance rides with loss of consciousness, permanent damage to the base of my right frontal lobe, etc., etc, etc.

I'm not looking for a pissing match. All I am trying to point out is you can never judge someone elses pain.

I'm glad you got to the bottom of your head pain. I'm hoping the same will happen for me someday.

DO NOT take pharmaceutical advice from Dave. Unless you want to say "I did WHAT?" tomorrow morning.

Or have to leave one of your party puking on the side of the road at a very busy intersection in the middle of morning traffic.:o:D

I'm certain it was after noon. :):D

that sux, but your was from an injury. mine was just out of the blue

In regard to the point we're trying to make, I don't think the cause matters. The severity of headaches covers a huge spectrum. I do believe people are sometimes too quick to pop tylenol/advil. At the same time though, there are cases where medication is necessary. True migraines generally fall in the latter category.

I also believe it is common for people to mis-label a type of headache. I think it is common to hear someone claim they have a migraine, when in fact it could just be a bad tension headache. Tension headaches will generally respond to more alternative treatment (ie: massage, hot or cold compresses) than migraines.

Keep in mind that if you are taking over the counter (Not perscription) IB then you are dosing with small pills. The effect of this typically is dosing faster than if you would have taken one larger perscription pill. That can contribute to the fact that you really shouldn't take that much IB at a time.

I get tension headaches, works pretty good for that, but I prefer to have my neck/shoulders rubbed cause it works well too.
