JumpinJules 0 #1 October 8, 2007 So I'm in the process of buying my first canopy, a triathlon 160, the dom is 7/02, but it's got 1000 jumps, so I'll have to reline it. The seller is accepting $340, but I've been told I should expect to pay at least $200 to $250 for a reline. Could anyone point me in the direction of somewhere I could get it relined at? Thanks!Into the great wide open/ under them skies of blue/ out in the great wide open/ a rebel w/out a clue.....

freefalle 0 #3 October 9, 2007 I agree, send it off to the manufacture. They are located in Tampa Florida. I used to jump a tri. I believe it was about 200 or so when I had it relined. enjoy you new canopy
councilman24 37 #4 October 9, 2007 Sending it to Aerodyne is fine. Mark Bauer, http://www.parachutemagic.com/ in Wisconsin could do the reline.I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
popsjumper 2 #5 October 9, 2007 QuoteSending it to Aerodyne is fine. Mark Bauer, http://www.parachutemagic.com/ in Wisconsin could do the reline. ...and would do it a lot quicker than the manufacturer. Order the reline from Aerodyne and have it shipped to the rigger. Send him the canopy when the lines get there. Tell Lynn I said hello. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. JumpinJules 0 #7 October 9, 2007 Thanks so much! I just got off the phone w/Mark and he's going to get a quote for me today. And Pops - I will make sure to relay the message to Lynn this weekend About the mod - what does that involve? Would it be significantly more if I decided to have him do it? wildfan75 1 #8 October 9, 2007 Andy--Message received. And hello back to you. Julie--If you need me drop your canopy off at Baldwin on my way home at some point, let me know. Sounds like you'll be out this weekend. We'll talk specifics then.
JumpinJules 0 #9 October 9, 2007 Grr... Mark just called back with a quote... $210 for the cheapest lineset through aerodyne, plus $120 for installation through him... unfortunately I wasn't planning on spending close to $700 on a used triathlon... I guess I'm going to have to keep looking.... so it'll be back to the club's zp exe for now Into the great wide open/ under them skies of blue/ out in the great wide open/ a rebel w/out a clue..... wildfan75 1 #10 October 9, 2007 Quote so it'll be back to the club's zp exe for now No you won't. You'll be jumping my Silhouette while I take advantage of the "free for me" jumps on the club's 150.
mark 107 #11 October 9, 2007 Aerodyne lists most line sets at $210. PD prices are similar for Spectra line sets ($195), cheaper for Dacron ($155). Those are the prices for the line sets themselves, what you would pay if you were buying a set for your local rigger to install. The prices do not include links ($25 for Slinks™). I didn't see where Aerodyne listed the price of a reline. PD lists reline with Spectra at $245, which does not include the mandatory $20 inspection fee. You'd also be responsible for shipping and insurance both ways (about $40), and you'd still have to assemble it on your risers when it comes back. After taking all costs into account, it's only slightly less expensive for the manufacturer to do major repairs (the difference for an installed line set would be around $10 - $30), mostly because the folks doing the work aren't being paid master rigger rates even though they are very competent. What you get by taking your work to a local rigger is prompt service. It takes me a couple hours to do a reline, including the inspection and assembly on your risers. That means you can jump your parachute all weekend, drop it off on Sunday night, and expect to have it ready the next time you come to the dz. Plus, if I have the opportunity, I'll put a test jump on your canopy! Mark
JumpinJules 0 #12 October 9, 2007 Thanks for clearing everything up and for getting back to me at lightening speed Mark. However, I still think a better option for me would be to just wait for a better deal to come around and worry about relining after I've put more than just a handful of jumps on the canopy I buy In the mean-time I guess I'll be wishing I could buy that silhouette 150 for a mere $1200 on here haha thanks Lynn! councilman24 37 #13 October 9, 2007 That really isn't a bad deal if the canopy fabric is in good shape with little sun damage. Your not going to find too much better deal on a canopy that is that new. The fact that you know it needs a line set and can plan for it is good. All of that assumes the canopy itself is in good condition. All you can get for $340 is a ragged out f-111 type canopy. I'd take a second look at it. None of the cost of the line set or Mark's fees are out of line. That's why I recommended you talk to him. All of thatI'm old for my age. JumpinJules 0 #14 October 10, 2007 I agree... $340 for an 02 is good... however, it did look a little ratty from the pics... I don't know if it was jumped in the desert or if it was just the lighting or what though. Mark's fees weren't outrageous, just more than most people had told me to expect, but after talking to some more experienced people from my dz, I learned I should expect more between $280 and $350 for relining instead of the $200 or $250 people had mentioned before, so at least I know now I've seen a couple sabre 1's for around $500 that had fewer jumps and wouldn't have needed a reline. In any event, I'd just rather buy something that I can jump for awhile before I'd have to reline... but Mark was super helpful and if I ever end up getting my own canopy ( ) I'll probably be searching him out again when it comes time to reline it. Thanks for the recommendation in the first place, it's nice to know there's someone so close that I can go to.
