PRSKY71 0 #1 May 17, 2006 Do they ever really get along? I have a dog (Gracie) and my SO has a cat (Bob) and the Bob has a definite attitude, while my pup is quite sweet!! In all fairness, though, Bob has a very interesting personality and is, I am told, quite friendly. I simply dunno as I'm not a cat person. But, anyway, Bob does NOT like Gracie!! She even bitch slapped Gracie once -- very sad!! Well, tonight, Bob has twice approched Gracie while Gracie was sleeping and touched Gracie's face, basically nose to nose. WTH?????? Gracie's like, what's going on? Character cannot be made except by a steady, long continued process. -- Phillips Brooks

Icon134 0 #3 May 17, 2006 Yep... my families first dog got along just fine with their cat... then after she died we got Kristi (our second family dog) and they spent all of Kristi's life (the cat outlived her by several years) chasing one another... Oh, Kristi was a very well behaved dog... the cat just didn't like her... Livin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife...
waltappel 1 #4 May 17, 2006 My cat loves dogs. She doesn't like other cats, but laidback dogs are cool with her. Walt
JustaBill 0 #5 May 17, 2006 I'm not sure yet, my wife just brought home a kitten. The bulldog and Schnauzer could care less, but the older mixed breed dog doesn't like him so far. I keep waiting for Lobo to eat the cat while the kids are at school and me to get blamed for it since I"m not a cat person and not real happy with the addition to the family. I can hear it now "MOM, dad fed the cat to Lobo!!!!"------------------------------------------------ I've done so much, with so little, for so long I'm now expected to do everything with nothing forever
flygirl1 0 #6 May 17, 2006 My cat Tom and dog Reggie get along really well. They are best friends. Tom isn't the brightest apple on the tree and Reggie thinks it is his job to look after him. He follows him around making sure he is ok. They even cuddle together when they go to sleep.Fly like a girl
sundevil777 102 #7 May 17, 2006 Mine were really good together. The dog was pretty old, then got a kitten. The dog was so excited when she first met the cat, it was really cute, she crept up on the ground to approach the kitten without scaring it, and was so happy it wasn't running away. It wasn't long before they were play-fighting all the time. The cat would get really wet from being in the mouth of the dog so much. After a while the cat would play hard-to-get, the dog would make it obvious it wanted to play, but the cat would turn its head and ignore the invitation until the dog would roll over on its back, then and only then would the cat attack. It also liked to jump on the dogs back from above as the dog would walk by.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
Michele 1 #8 May 17, 2006 QuoteWell, tonight, Bob has twice approched Gracie while Gracie was sleeping and touched Gracie's face, basically nose to nose. WTH?????? Gracie's like, what's going on? What's going on is that Bob is learning that Gracie isn't a threat...and soon there will be a bond beginning. I had three cats and a dog when I was with my ex. The dog, Sammi, was rottie/weimeraner/dobie mix (I think); when she'd run she'd scare small children, and their mothers would pick them up screaming. Sammi was just running and playing, but people thought she was attacking. Anyway, all my cats, Tron, Penny and Bitch Kitty, were older when my ex and I got together. before too long, the dog would bring kibbles to the cats when they were sleeping on the sofa. The cats would use her as a step-stool to get onto the counters and the top of the television...and yes, on cold nights you might find Sammi sleeping with three cats draped around her or on her. Dogs and cats get along well, if left alone to figure things out for themselves. A swipe here, a bite back there, a growl for a hiss, and then they're friends. Love them both and let them work it out, don't interfere unless there's blood, and don't worry about the nips and posturing unless, as I said, it's dangerous. They'll get it figured out, and be fine. Gracie's like, what's going on? My dog (Herc) has his own cat (Teko). They get along great (well, if you consider Herc tackling Teko as getting along great!). I got Teko when he was about 9 months old and Herc was 3 years old. It took them a bit to get used to each other but now they get along fine (although Herc gets a little bent out of shape when Teko steals his bed - see attached!) It just takes time.
