Damn what a day!!!

Recommended Posts

I had a conversation today with a friend about the ultimate form of respect and in the same day watch fellow jumpers in an equally ultimate act of disrespect.Don't ask for details and those involved don't send PMs.I'm completely disheartened right now.

Good guess Beezy but no.

The first I refer to was talking someone about recovering the bodies of some downed airmen so they could be sent home to their families. The second was watching a group of people go into the pack mentality and go through the hanger and fuck with peoples stuff.

It doesn't matter where it happened. It's a problem we all have wherever you jump.Touching someone elses gear without being asked by the owner of the gear is a no no.I don't care how funny you think it is.And before anyone tells me to lighten up,how would you like it if someone you know goes in the morning after you were fucking with their gear and there were a dozen people that saw you touching it.I know there is funny stuff, like messing up a pack job that is ready to go in the bag but what I'm talking about is beyond that. And while we are talking about respect, what the hell is so hard about going to the trash can with an empty beer bottle on the way to get the next one?If your mama don't work at your DZ clean up after your damn self.Do you think having to pay someone to cleanup after your slack ass helps or hurts the cost of a lift ticket???

I know I am going to catch shit about this thread but since when has that stopped me.There are people at DZs all over that need to either some some maturity or some self restraint.

Re: beer bottles

Mike Igo from Moss Point had a great idea when his DZ was trashed from the night before. No jumpy jumpy until everything's cleaned up!!! I've never seen so many hung over skydivers move so quickly.

Jest my 2¢.

I talked to a couple of the perpetrators. They claimed they were teaching the person a lesson (not to leave gear out overnight.) But my point was that there are better ways to make that point. I.E. pack the parachute as if you were going to jump it place it on the gear rack & do not tell the owner who packed it. Then they will have to unpack before re-packing.

I agree with you. It was poor judgment by a group of people who thought they were being funny.

Why these days is it not ok to leave your gear overnight? And if we do, why should we be taught a lesson. I know there are thieving pricks out there etc etc etc But, isn't it up to the DZO to determine if gear should be packed up overnight rather than some individuals. It may of been a joke but to be honest, if i see anyone messing with my gear. They will be getting a smack to the face. Sorry, but when it comes to gear. It's pretty serious. As for the beer bottles. Just clean up after yourself spence:D

How do I get the job of lesson giver?I think I could have fun with that for a week or two.

Oh and I remember a time not so long ago when I would leave all of my gear, camera gear included,in the hanger and go home for the night. Now that we have people giving reasons, were the rigs in the way? Were they hampering the party activities? Not a single one of those people would appreciate being "taught a lesson" by having their gear fucked with.

Sounds like you are one of those who condone screwing with somebody else's gear...not good.>:(

What? You want it moved or something? Ask/Tell the owner to move it....then ya'll can duke it out if you want but even in the end, only the owner touches it.

Only exception would possibly be the DZO.

Absolutely not. I am the type of person that would pack the rig, set it on the gear rack & tell the person that I packed for them. All I would expect in return is a thank you & for them to watch out for my gear in the future. Maybe a hug as well (she's a hottie);).

I watch out for other peoples gear because I'm the S&TA. I was asleep when the offense happened.

That doesn't make sense...why go through all that trouble and create potential hard feelings when you should just tell the owner to move it in the first place?
You assume that anyone would be comfortable with you handling their stuff...why? Because you are an S&TA?

1. You pack someone's rig unasked? No way. S&TA or King of the Country. No.
2. You put a rig somewhere and have the owner looking all over for it because you got tied up somewhere and didn't tell him? No way.
3. ......

screw it...you're not listening anyway...

No. Because I have packed for her in the past, took her on her first skydive, & taught her how to pack. I wouldn't just pack for anyone. I would normally just ask the person to secure their gear.

Because I am an S&TA I feel responsible for the safety of everyone & that includes looking out for their gear.

Why am I defending myself. I was saying that I thought that it was wrong to mess with someones gear.

I'm with you on this Rich. But I think the point to be made here is the gear was not in anyones way.It should not have been touched.I hope these folks will go to the owners and apologize.Oh and Rich,Someone did what you said to one rig. They put all the rubber bands that had been cut off the D-bag back on and packed the rig.

There has to be a line somewhere. The experienced jumpers show the new jumpers what is alright. If this is alright now who is to say that the next guy might think it is funny to screw with someones cut away cables or stuff a hacky up in the pocket or maybe someone pisses someone off and you pull their cut away during a skydive. There has to be a line somewhere and I draw it at screwing with someones gear.
