Anyone ever used Dramamine for fear of flying?

Recommended Posts

Ok, once again I have to fly in a passenger jet :( About 5 yrs ago, I developed a seriously overwhelming fear of flying. It doesn't get me so much in little planes, helis, etc. but the jetliners kill me. My fear is that the steel tank is going to nose dive to Earth. I often try to combat the fear by thinking things like "the pilots don't want to die either" :S

Anyway, I don't have time to go to the doctor for any type of serious drugs so I was thinking about picking up some dramamine at the drug store. Anybody tried this for fear of flying? Does it work. Usually what will happen is when we hit turbulence and the fucking wings start flopping around, I think they are going to snap off and then I get a WICKED onset of uncontrollable sweating, I usually find myself clencing my arm rests, and am listening to every freakin' sound the damn plane makes in case I hear something wrong (like I would even know :S). I've been told Dramamine just kinda' calms everything down but it was a bunch of stoners who told me this, so...... I've tried reading, typing on my notebook, I even did that stupid thing from "Die Hard" and took my shoes off and walked around (doesn't work).

Dramamine? Any other tips?

it wont help with fear, you need valium or something similar for that. dramamine is for motion sickness.

dramamine tends to make people drowsy, which can help. And if he has mild sensitivity to motion sickness coupled with his fear...

But I think it's easier just to hit the bar!

I am extremely uncomfortable flying commercial. Usually, I will let the flight attendants know and they are so supportive. I've been put into first class everytime they have seats available and have even been given a free glass of wine from the pilot to relax with.

I think the same things to myself---the pilots want to go home safe and alive as well. Southwest seems to be the coolest with me. Have even been brought wine before the flight took off by a flight attendant that I met on a different flight. Tell them you're skeered and to check on you and they will take great care!!:)

you are much more likely to die in general aviation than commercial avaiation...... don't sweat it.. as for dramamine,it should just help with motion sickness... some downers is what ya need and only either by commiting a felony or a doctors script will ya get those....

could always get massivly drunk.. but ya risk getting turbulence right when ya have to really pee, and that's no fun...

my 27 hour flight to Australia was the most bombed I have ever been. Got up ONCE to use the john.
It was Xanax. And booze. Streaker would wake me up when they brought food, feed me more drugs and booze and I would pass out for 6 or 7 more hours. Poor guy, he was really bored, and I was drooling on his shoulder. When we sleep together, I really SLEEP.
