What's Your Favorite Food Made by Mom?

Recommended Posts

My Mom is an awesome cook.... I truly didn't appreciate it as a kid - she would cook all sorts of elaborate meals, and I'd beg for Mac n Cheese. :D

My all time favorite though was every Sunday morning Mom would get up at the crack of dawn and make breakfast for the family. She would make special pancakes just for me shaped like animals. I miss those Sunday mornings so much!!!!! B|

Waldorf Salad!

Oh, Andrea, THANK YOU.;)

Do you have any idea how long that's been bugging me? I should have googled it.

The other day I chopped an apple, added golden raisens, sliced almonds and canola mayo to bring out oceanside for a lunchtime snack. My hunny asked what the hell I was making (Chef Boy-ar-Billy usually does the cookin') and for the life of me I couldn't remember what it was called (and yes, I know that's not the exact recipe---I don't have celery. That's the anti-food.:S). I kept wanting to call it Washington or Wellington or Dusseldorf:D

You're the best. Thank you!:P
Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

I've never had any of Skymama's cooking

LOL...you really haven't missed much. My kids get a nutritional dinner every night but it's not necessarily creative. My main goal is to get it done quickly and get out of the kitchen.

My mom is one of the best cooks I know. I never knew that food could taste bad when I was younger until I started eating at my friends houses. I remember one time when I was maybe 5 or 6 I actually thought the food went bad because I didn't like it:D.

Some of my favorite things that my mom makes are her winter vegetable, butternut squash and minestrone soups, 4 cheese and spinage ravioli topped with toasted pine nuts and parmesan cheese and her pumpkin cheese cake tart with creme fraiche and dark chocolate crust.

Here's a variation of Waldorf Salad that's great in the summer since it's frozen:

Ever-Ready Waldorf Salad

1 (1 pound, 4 ounce) can crushed pineapple
3 eggs, slightly beaten
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup diced celery
3 medium-size, unpeeled apples, diced
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
1-1/2 cups heavy cream, whipped

- Drain pineapple, reserving 3/4 cup juice

- Combine juice with eggs, sugar, lemon juice and salt. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thick. Cool

- Add pineapple, celery, apples and nuts. Fold in whipped cream. Turn into two 9” x 5” x 3” loaf pans [I line the pans with plastic wrap to make it easier to take out.]

- Place in freezer. When frozen, unmold, wrap, label, date and return to freezer. Recommended storage time: up to one month

- To serve, cut in serving-size portions and place on lettuce-lined plates. Garnish with spoonfuls of salad dressing and insert slices of unpeeled red apples, skin side up, in a fan shape.

- Makes 12 servings

Note: Apples soften, but give salad a pleasing flavor; celery stays crisp

My mom is an awesome cook, there are tons of dishes I just love...

My mother in law cooks the most incredible Italian food. Straight outta NY, passed down from her full-blooded Italian mother in law. Good stuff.

Mom P. had a heart attack a few hours ago. She's in the ER, and my husband just left with our daughter to be with her. God I hope she's ok. I feel so damn helpless, and I'm trying my best to post-whore just to stop the pacing...:(

Oh that just sucks... I've been through something similar very recently. I'll be praying for Mom P. and your family. [:/]

I have three, because I have had three mother figures in my life.

My Mom makes the most incredible pineapple upside down cake. Sweet, gooey and really tasty.

Step Mom made a heavenly banana bread. The top would break open and be both crunchy and soft.

Adoptive Mom makes a chicken and dumplings that is making my mouth water just thinking about it.
