bdrake529 0 #1 November 4, 2007 Hello, I'm sorry if this has been addressed before. I'm posting this quick before heading out for the evening and don't have time to do a thorough forum search. I've got a Spectre 170. My rigger said I need a new pilot chute, so I went to the gear shop to buy a new one. I have a 28" PC, so the gear shop guy sold me a 28" replacement. But the rigger said since my old PC was F111 and the new one is ZP, I should have a 26" PC. Unfortunately, they don't have any in stock. The rigger thought for a few moments and said "it probably will be ok". I pressed him further, and he explained that once the canopy is out of the bag, the PC doesn't make any difference, so the worse that could happen would be line dump or something to that effect by having too much pull on the PC. He gave me an ok to jump the 28" PC anyway, but I wasn't entirely convinced by his confidence in recommending this. I'll be jumping the new PC tomorrow morning and I'm 95% confident nothing will go wrong. Just thought I'd post here and see if anyone has a strong warning against this, or, as my rigger decided, it really won't make that much difference. Thanks, BrianBrian Drake
phastasphuk 0 #2 November 4, 2007 My biggest concern of switchig from F111 to a ZP would be going down in size, and at the same time stuff a new slippery pilot into a spandex pocket that have been stretched to accomodate that old bulky F111 pilot. Side note: Since most container manufactures dont make the mains too, do they take into consideration of what main you are specyifying to put in it and adjust the pilot size accordingly?chris
airdog07 0 #3 November 4, 2007 because of low-porosity of F111 fabric, compare with same size ZP it has less snatch force, as it get older the F111 gets less efficient faster than ZP so you might notice the difference lot more than compare between two when they are new, if your canopy open soft you might not feel much difference, for WS it might be good thing"A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones ..." phoenixlpr 0 #4 November 4, 2007 I had about 350 jump on a 32" F111 kill-line PC and a 150 sqft canopy, I had more than 200 jumps on a 24" ZP kill-line PC on a 135 sqft canopy. Both were and are opening fine without any issue. Does it really matter?
