i don't know, my dog is 75 pounds and could pull me over if she wanted to. i was hoping someone here has experience biking with their dog and had some pointers. i think this is the only way i can get her the exercise she needs.

Honestly...I don't have one..but I have four dogs(weight ranging from 15lbs to 85lbs)...none of which would I trust with one of those "things"....get out and take your dog for a walk every night...thats what I do.

Oooh yeah theres a "brilliant" idea!! What happens if the dog see something that he wants to chase?? Or better yet..you want to go left nd Fido wants to go right....De De Deeee

Um...yeah, I'm thinking those are only for VERY well trained dogs. Looks to me like at least one of you, if not both of you, can get really fucked up by that thing. :S

i do take her for walks, but she wants to run. i've tried running with her, but my running speed is just a fast walk for her. when i ride my bike in front of the house, she's very happy to run along side of me so i need to find a way to take her for longer runs. she's not even a year old and is already a little overweight.

I bike with my dog all the time. It's hard to get him/her trained not to walk in front of the bike, but it's usually a safe bet to wait before doing this until you can compfortably walk your dog with him/her right beside you. It's also helpful if the dog understands verbal commands as well. My dog doesn't know left or right, but definitely understands "Woah!" (slow down) and "Stop!" (stop and sit)

My dog, Kayla, will usually pull me for the first 10 minutes or so (she's a Malamute) and then run comfortably next to me for the next 20 min, then she's pretty pooped after that.

The hardest part was to stop her from running in front of the bike. That resulted in a few scrapes and bruises to me from tripping over her and falling off the bike. Don't tie the leash to the bike, keep a firm grip on it your hands, but yet still have the ability to release it if he/she starts to wander in a direction that you don't want to.

It's great exercise for the dogs too! 1 20 minute ride wears her out for the day! I've thought about building a dry-dog-sled with wheels and a comfy seat, so I can sit down and relax and just let her pull me around the neighborhood or dropzone. ;)

You will probably screw up your dog they aren't built for jogging! Dogs are built for fast speeds and short distances.

I think that depends more on the type of dog then anything... think of sled dogs... they are bred to pull sleds for long distances in very harsh conditions.

having said that... I don't plan to take Karma on runs much longer then about 7 miles... because she doesn't like to go that fast for too long...

When my dog use to need to go for a run, I would strap a harness to her, and put on some roller blades. I would just take her for a walk but have her pull me the whole way. That is a lot better than this bike thing because if she got out of control for me to handle on wheels, I could bail out on near by grass and be able to get the grip I need stop her. And it didnt take much to train her to understand when I was stopping or turning. I never had to use the brake after the first run.
The added bonus is she is running, and pulling extra weight making her tire out faster. A quick 5 - 10 minute run would tire her out for at least 3 hours.

Yeah, my Dad use to do skateboarding with his dog when I would take my dog. But too many forgotten sandpits caused him to give up on that.

we live in a small town so there's no dog park. we have a friend with a golden and we make sure that we get them together at least twice a week. the thing is that i need exercise as well and with two small children to take care of, time is limited. i need to be able to combine activities.
