Georgia Motorcycle Insurance

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

I've been itching to get back in the saddle for some time so I called my insurance company today to get a quote for a CBR600f4i. The fuckers wanted $3900 A YEAR!!!!

I have a clean driving record, married, over 25 blah blah blah all the usual stuff that brings down insurance but WTF?? Anyone out there have any good insurance companies to recommend that are decently priced?

Oh, btw Progressive gave the above quote.

Thanks.

Blues,
Ian

well buddy.. good luck in finding a cheaper one..

I called mine (21st Century) and they quoted me 2500 for my car and bike combined..
I'm going to go out and pay cash for my bike when I get and just get basic coverage on it..

2 years of insurance pays for a new bike.. just put that money away every month instead of giving it to an insurance company.

holy shit man. i live in Tennessee and my insurance is $80.00 a YEAR per bike - thats liability and uninsured motorist only. (yeah, thats eighty, not eight hundred).
granted, i am riding an '82 Yamaha Virago 750 and an '82 Yamaha XS 850 but still...

edit to add try Geico, they are who i used and they were really cool about the whole process. im thinking its the whole crotch rocket vibe that is sending your quote throught the roof - no need to buy one if youre not planning on going fucking fast. my 850 goes plenty fast for me, so if you really want to get back on two wheels you might try getting a quote for a non-cafe style bike and see if there is a big difference. just a thought...

try a diffrent bike, or better yet, try a diffrent style of bike. sport bikes normally have the highest insurance rates.......... to bad i like to ride sport bikes myself.... luckily ohio has pretty cheap insurancce rates as a whole....

Will give Geico a shot. Checked out a forum for sportbikes and got a few suggestions there too. I know not having one will bring the insurance down but I've just always had and enjoyed riding the sport bikes more.

Worst case I'll buy it cash and just get liablilty.

Thanks.

It's the accent. They figure anyone who has such a sexy accent like that has got to be bad news. ;)

Depends on the laws in your state. Colorado for years had "no-fault" state laws, so insurance here was cheap (you weren't allowed to sue others in accidents). They've recently changed that, but I don't know how it's affected bike insurance, since I don't have one anymore.

$3900/year sounds absolutely crazy! How much damage do they think a bike is going to do to an SUV anyway? Progressive usually had good bike rates, too - that was my insurer with my Beemer. But they've screwed me over a few times on motorhome insurance, so it sounds like that company has gone down hill.

I'm just assuming he talked to them on the phone. He's from South Africa. Everyone from there sounds sexy! If he just got the quote over the internet, then there is no help for him...his reputation precedes him. :P

See if you can get a quote from USAA. I have a bike, car and truck and pay $1,900 a year for full coverage on all (in Florida).:)

some insurane companies here inOz have similar premiums. I asked why and they flat out said that they DO NOT want to insure motorbikes. So they cost the premium accordingly. Fair enough, I just went elsewhere with ALL my insurance:)

Welcome to the life of owning a sport bike. Its like that in TX as well. Although the insurance on my cruiser is really cheap.

Unfortunately, even if you're a good rider with a perfect record, owning a sport bike means you get to be judged by all the squids that have come before you and will come after you.

Yeah we're USAA members. USAA apparently sends motorcycles to Progressive. Still, I'm going to call around. Statefarm turns up a lot in the bike forums and I've gotten a couple of other good leads there too.

Thanks everyone.
