I wanna know!!!

My first reaction is that the dog owner is also a parent.

Parents have selective hearing and have been conditioned to filter out 'normal' sounds around them. (I do stop my dog from barking at night, though)

Don't shoot--I'm a parent. I don't hear kids fighting in cars or planes either. B|~~April

How does a person sleep with a dog barking in their OWN back yard, but manage to keep the neighbors awake all night????

Someone please give me the answer......its magic, isn't it?

Bobbi

Shoot the neighbors, adopt the dog. Train it not to bark at night.B|
If I had to guess the dog gets little to no attention to start with. [:/]
my doggie almost never barks, especially at night. Unless there's some strange noise. And then its only once or twice.

That's not what is happening. The barking might have woke them but the barking did not keep them up. I doubt the barking went on all night. it happened for a moment, then the neighbors had a hard time getting back to sleep. When they complained about it, they over inflated the story saying it kept them up all night.

Edited to add- I don't know who the dog owner is and I don't know who is being affected by the barking.

I confirmed with other neighbors...they heard it too and aren't pleased at all...they are pissed off, and tired too...bad combo...and one of the neighbors thats pissed off is crazy neighbor lady....watch out!!!

Sometimes when Karma goes outside at night she'll bark at the neighbors dogs or otherwise... and most of the time all it takes for me to break it up is getting her attention off of it and bringing her back inside.

but that probably won't help in your case.

edited to add: the dog probably wants inside at night... and it is irresponsible of the neighbors to leave it out at night.

I turn on the bathroom fan. But, I keep my dogs fenced, the neighbor lets his cat run loose. The cat sits right outside the fence and that's what the dogs bark at, so I'm not inclined to make his life easier if I can deal with the noise---there's a much longer history here

Leave notes about the barking dog on the front door rear door and the car doors. When you leave to go to work blast an air horn every morning if you are up earlier than them.

Call the police in the middle of the night for noise complaint. Since it will be dark and no real reason for the noise for the police make sure you call it in as a domestic dipute. They will knock on the door and wake them with a very bright light and question them separately for a while.

Get all the nieghbors to go over there with you and confront them about it.

invest in some bottle rockets, the ones that just fly and go bang. Don't aim them directly at the dog, but in it's general direction. A few loud bangs and maybe the little bastard will think otherwise about barking. Other neighbors might not like that though, but who cares what they like, those bastards.

I had a neighbor who's dog repeatedly jumped the fence and chased my cat around MY yard. A couple stealthy well-aimed shots to the dog's hindquarters with a BB gun took care of that problem. I simply cannot tolerate assholes who can't control their pets.
