Men and marriage

Recommended Posts

Oh well, I tried.

Actually a more serious answer to your question from me is that I would have popped the question to one girl a long time ago if she would of stayed with me. I think that was around 24 or 25. I'd still probably marry this girl given the chance. There is just something about her.
Now that I'm a little older I do see myself being able to marry the next girl I'm serious with. I tend not to date people who I just don't find facinating in the first place so when I do date it's usually because I want it to last.
I have the disease where girls just love you to death but can't stay with you. Too nice I guess. Then you try not to be too nice and now your an asshole.
The girl I said I'd marry, we had a long discussion one day and this is what I don't get.
me: you know i'd stay with you forever if we got together.
her: I know and I know you are a great guy, I wish I could feel the same way you do, but I don't and I hate that I don't.

If you do feel you are the Marrying type.....

Lewis Grizzard came up with a Great Plan after his 3rd Marrige...

Every 5 Years.. Pick some random woman walking down the street, Buy her a House, Give her half of your Money and walk way. Think of all the money you will save in legal fees.:S:D

Definitely. No guy has any business getting marries until he's 29 or 30. We're simply too immature, and not ready to settle down. Women aren't much better, but they figure things out a little quicker than us men. Women are pretty much idiots until they turn 26 or 27.

Spot on Sir. You just don't really know who you are until you've been through 10 or 12 years of grown up sh*t. Anyone who thinks they do is either really, really, UNUSUALLY self aware, or just listening to the echoes of their adolescent ego. Some people jump on the first bus that looks like it's going to the right place, which could lead them to do silly things like get into a long distance relationship their first summer in college, bypass the entirely superficial, but highly educational college "buffet" scene, and then let that drag out into a marriage which only took 18 months to prove itself a disastrous mistake. The whole time thinking that they're somehow more avanced than all those lost souls out there playing the field.:S
...Hypothetically, of course. :|

I have also said exactly the same thing about women under 25. Except, instead of 'idiots' I used the more scientific designation: "totally f*ckin' unstable." (That way, they weren't too insulted to still potentially hook up with me.;)) But you can't blame them. They're just working out their Mothers' "Hurry up! Get married and start a family before your baby basket dries up and falls out, and you end up being the neighborhood "Cat Lady!!" issues, just like we we're busy working out Dad's "When are you going to grow up, get married, have kids, be a responsible adult, so I don't have to envy your freedom anymore?!" issues.

I read a similar (but sounds like this exact) article in either Glamour or Marie Claire magazine.

Much like why I stopped reading Cosmo years ago, it made me realize women think WAY too hard about these things:S

Every man/woman is different. And then they have to be on the same page when the find each other. There are far too many variables for such a study---yet one has been done b/c women are soooo eager to figure these things out that just can't be predicted in a crystal ball.

Just live, girls. Take things as they come, do what (and who:D) you want and hope for the best/let it roll.

Enough with the studies/quizzes/how-to-tell articles already. Sheesh!
:P

But then the magazines and self-help books wouldn't sell. I totally agree, people spend far too much time trying to figure out the "rules" of this and other relationship games without just living their lives and dealing with people as individuals. I think men do this shit, too, but in different ways.

I'm 31... lets see... through college I didn't feel like I ever had time to date/get married... and now I more or less don't know how to date...

I see myself being single... I'm sort of fed up with women... and being "the good friend..." but nothing else...

perhaps I'll just hide in a cave until I'm 37 then come out and start settling into my batchelorhood lifestyle... :P:P:P

of course I would sort of like to have children some day... :|

Will you marry me?

:o:$

Thank-you for the offer, but I think it would help if we actually had more than an internet relationship.

Yeah, don't be ridiculous! :S Besides, as soon as we can afford to rent the house next door, she'll be busy doing the Big Love thing with me and Mariposa!

I think that it's silly to claim either sex is mature enough or not mature enough to get married, based on age. I do agree that people should wait at least till early-mid twenties, but people are individuals--no one should try to group younger/older people as less fit for marriage. I have met mature, young people who got married--and I have met older people who should have never gotten married in the first place.
Everyone is different:)

Most people RUSH into marriage because they are taught this is what they are supposed to do... I remember in College there 100`s of women who were just there for their MRS Degree and they were quite honest about it. Got to find them a Husband. Pretty sad if you ask me.

Hey, it's their life. If their main goal in life is to have a husband (and I'm assuming a family too), then why is that sad? Hopefully most of them find someone who is looking for the same thing...

As for the age thing, that is interesting... Since I have never spent any time looking for someone to marry, I haven't paid much attention to which men are "marriable" or not... But thinking of the men that I know, I guess there could be something to it.

For you guys, has your age really played into your decision to get married or to remain single? Do you think it's true that a man will remain a bachelor once he hits 43 and is still single?

***

Wasn't the case with me...45.
First marriage.

But I kind of see what they're getting at.

We get old & grumpy pretty quick in our 40's...
Who'd WANT a grumpy ole guy?;)

And I can't stand that kind of attitude:S

I am so glad to hear that! That attitude got seriously old with me years ago. The fact is that bitterness like that is a real turnoff. I do not like being held accountable for others' bad behaviors.

You're right. It's arrogant, narrow minded and presumptuous. Which is why only people our age are mature enough to do it. ;)

I dated this gal for a short while who was in vet school. She'd previously gone for her MBA and had quit just a little shy of it. She expected to graduate with about 130,000 in student loans.

One night she told me she was ready to start the next phase of her life. She wanted to get married, have kids, and be a stay at home mom. I asked her why she didn't drop out of school right then if she didn't plan on putting that debt to good use, and she had no real answer. :S She wasn't on the pill. I quit seeing her IMMEDIATELY. :D
