SBS 0 #1 April 5, 2006 Maybe a repost, but I finally got to see this today. If you haven't seen it, go! If you haven't heard of it, look it up and go! I can see how it could be a little disturbing to some, but it is sooooo incredible. -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness... jtval 0 #4 April 5, 2006 I can see how it could be disturbing if the bodies were murdered or something but these were bodies that were donated to science. and they are't very distasteful. Still, I can see how some people would be bothered by this. if used for educational purposes I would say its useful, but I remeber the first news report I saw and they were portrayed as propping dead people up in goofy position to make a quick buck. apparently they were misinformed againMy photos My Videos

SBS 0 #6 April 6, 2006 I didn't think it was distasteful at all, maybe it has changed since it began. There was a room with fetuses, though, which they warned about and said that anyone was welcome to skip that room. They made sure to point out that they were lost naturally. They had some that were fairly normal sized, but some that were literally the size of quarters that already had recognizable bodies. One whose skin and bones were almost clear, that had just barely started to develop. Without getting political, it makes one think about abortion and what it really means. The most interesting, I thought, was the veins and arteries portion where they injected a bright red fluid into the veins that hardened, then they used something else to dissolve away all the flesh and bones, leaving only a framework of veins. They are fragile, of course, so they were suspended in water. There is a whole body, though, where it is made up of nothing but veins and arteries...really cool. The mechanics and intricacies are just amazing. -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...
divegoddess 0 #7 April 6, 2006 We do their merch.... Utterly fascinating... If you haven't seen it... go see it soon. The human rights activists are having a field day over the origin of the bodies.

kenz 0 #12 April 6, 2006 i just posted about this a couple of weeks ago - and again i will say that this is the most phenominal thing i have ever seen - there are certain displays that i STILL talk about almost daily, because i amd still SO fascinated by it... it is done in a very tasteful manner and i think that surprises people a lot... there is no knowledge on how anyone died all that is known is that these people requested that once they passed on their bodies were to be donated... and honestly it's not something that ever crossed my mind until i saw what they did - i'm seriously considering it - if someone can learn from it then why not? seriously though if you can DEFINITELY check it out"life does throw curveballs sometimes but it doesn't mean we shouldn't still swing for the homerun" ~ me
SBS 0 #13 April 6, 2006 you know, I was thinking that it would be really interesting to know something about the people. Not a lot, just maybe how old they were, or how they died, or something. I don't know, maybe that would bother people more. It's just so seemingly unnatural, I thought it was hard to imagine them as real people sometimes. It seemed creepy though that someone could actually walk in look at the severed head that is cut in half, look at the person next to them and say, "that's my dad". -S_____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness... I don't know, maybe that would bother people more. The information provided said they do that to protect the person displayed and their families. QuoteIt seemed creepy though that someone could actually walk in look at the severed head that is cut in half, look at the person next to them and say, "that's my dad". yeah thats definitely a creepy thought did you see the "body worlds" exhibit or did you see a different version? everyone keeps talking about the one in NY - but i can't find any information on it, so i'm guessing its a different one? i would love to see the different exhibits and compare but thanks for sharing your story :) i'm glad i'm not the only one who has seen it:)"life does throw curveballs sometimes but it doesn't mean we shouldn't still swing for the homerun" ~ me

Amazon 7 #16 April 6, 2006 I think the exibit is fascinating...the only other time I have gotten to see bodies.. they were usually not in as pristine a condition.
kenz 0 #17 April 6, 2006 http://www.koerperwelten.de/en/pages/anreise.asp apparently this guy gunther von hagens who developed "body worlds" was the original scientist to develop this concept - but essentially the same procedure was done by other scientists - this guy feels the need to tell everyone that he was the first - i'm just psyched that now i can see it in NY :) thanks for sharing"life does throw curveballs sometimes but it doesn't mean we shouldn't still swing for the homerun" ~ me

gmittar 0 #19 April 6, 2006 I'd like to add that the guy that developed this art form has donated his body after death to it, and the rest of his family has too. I'd love to see it, it doesn't seem morbit at all to me, but totally fascinating. If it's ever in my area... |>.<| Seriously, W.T.F. mate?
